Lore:

After the events of SA1, Knuckles was fed up with Sonic and Eggman's constant battles and tried to kill them both. While he was fighting Sonic, Eggman caught him off guard and threw his body into the chaos filled waters of the now flooded Station Square. Where his near lifeless husk was disfigured and infused with chaos energy. Keeping him alive as a shambling corpse whose hellbent on using the master emerald's power to get his revenge on the ones who killed him.

This was a one off, but I can't resist the opportunity to draw Knuckles so. Yeah
