Description This particular illustration has been sitting on my hard drive unfinished for the past year or so. Was rather unhappy about how it was going at the time and stopped. Finally got around to repainting and finishing it - not entirely satisfied with the end result, but there is still something appealing (at least to me!) about it. Pencil sketch on paper, painted in photoshop.

Thanks. I like details - I'd be a lot quicker if I didn't, but I really like 'em.

Never enough time in a day for my likings!

Awesome pic!

Maybe the divot should be in front of her? Or there should be a gouge in the ground behind her back foot?

Painted with a mouse?!? You're my hero!!!!

The back arm being bent makes it look a little like the top of the swing rather than the follow through, but the rest of the pose is really strong. I love the look of surprise on her face

This is a hole in one as far as I'm concerned.

Very adorable take on an incredibly cute concept.

Her legs are amazingly well done (well, all of her is amazingly well done, but something about her legs really caught my eye).

U must have some awesome traditional acrylics or gouache paintings you're holding out on us from posting - cuz, I'd love to see the smoothness of the Loopyness traditionally !!

Did ya use an airbrush back then?, ... that's the only way I can imagine the same results when I paint with traditional gouache paints.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Loopydave In reply to theartyst [2009-03-02 01:58:48 +0000 UTC]

Don't have much of my traditional painted stuff anymore - lost in moves, discarded over time etc. I'm sure they weren't that interesting anyway - a couple of Norman Rockwell copies (great way to learn!), some landscapes, but mostly technical excercises like paintings of jars, tins etc (used to really enjoy that). Did play around with the airbrush a bit at college, but never got around to getting a compressor for home so didnt go far with it.
Someday I'm going to crack open a paint box again for the fun of it. It will be an interesting excercise - I had applied what I had learnt traditionally to the digital medium, and I'm sure I will take stuff that I've learnt on the computer back to traditional paints!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

theartyst In reply to Loopydave [2009-03-03 04:12:50 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, those compressors were too noisy for me - so i got a c02 tank twenty years ago (works like a charm and quiet as can be) I even had to use it last year for a quick background AND it still had AIR in it AFTER over 10 years LATER (from my last time filling it !) simply amazing i would say

That's funny though ((about losing art in moves/discarding pieces)) because I moved a year ago AND when packing the end of the truck I was running out of room, and decided to actually throw away into a huge dumpster many original pieces of art. Gouache paintings that i never thought I would part with ... I'm almost wishing I didn't get rid of some of 'em,... oh yeah - i did give many pieces to neighbors too.

goes 2 show, how as time goes by - what we find dear changes.

I know what you mean. Moved house some 8 months back and because the new studio is about half the size of the last one, threw out a whole heap of stuff, including, ironically, my airbrush!

My place is smaller too,... the way I fixed that problem was to USE THE ENTIRE PLACE as a studio, so now I have three studios/rooms

the Library (we both Love so much)
the Painting studio (would've been the Livingroom)
and the filing/storage/supply room

Loopydave In reply to theartyst [2009-03-03 23:03:34 +0000 UTC]

Sounds like a great solution! Out of necessity I became a lot more efficient with my use of space and moved the studio non-essentials, like DVDs into other rooms! Do like to keep my work space seperate from my living space though - makes it easier to unwind when I'm not working!

theartyst In reply to Loopydave [2009-03-04 01:16:49 +0000 UTC]

haha - the only-est room I have that's not art related is the bedroom well, on second thought, I have art on the walls (but that's all) a signed Norman Rockwell print hangs next to the door

OK, i don't want ya to think I'm more weird than i already am - talking and talking,... but mate, we do have so much in common 2 talk about !!

Nah, you're right, it sucks.

NOT!!!

Amazing work, as usual. Aside from the mouth-watering colors, I love the way your line incorporates both cartoon and classic pin-up sensibilities. Simply masterful!

btw, I mentioned this before - if you're sticking to a mouse, I think you should seriousely consider switching to a Logitech Trackman. It gives you incredible freedom (for a mouse), and it's way, way healthier for your wrist; if you use the mouse a lot, carpal tunnel syndrom can't be far off, and the Trackman is the only effective solution I've seen (and I've been through a few).

Loopydave In reply to yatz [2009-03-02 00:21:10 +0000 UTC]

Thank man. And thanks for the advice. Think my single click mouse will do for the short term though, until I get my Cintiq (later this year). I do my drawings the traditional way, which breaks things up and means I'm not just tied to the mouse all the time.
