Nay, nay. I've resigned myself to the fact that it's gone forever. Unless the cat dumped it in my shoe again. BRB.

LOL!
I've really been enjoying all of these Dave.
I think you should be hired to re-make parts of these movies.
Have a great weekend my friend!
Take care

Definitely a sub-light ship. Β I always had questions about that, too. Β Because, obviously, the outer rim they are talking about is not in our Solar System, so somehow, this thing is wandering around out on the outer arm [I'm guessing] of the Galaxy, at sub-light speeds, yet managing to get back and forth in [again, guessing] years; possibly decades, though it is never really even hinted at.
But I digress. Β The whole point of the movie was to scare the living shit out of the audience; a task at which it succeeded admirably. Β I can remember two distinct times when I was actually out of my seat, heading for the EXIT, before realizing that I was, indeed, in a movie theater.
And, now, of course, we come to your dismantling of that and rearranging of the parts, to make this little comic tableau. Β A task at which you have succeeded admirably. Β Β I only wish we could have gotten the "full" underwear clad Ripley. Β How well I remember that scene. Β [Not to mention the opening sequence, with her voice echoing through the Cosmos.. "This is commercial towing vehicle Nostromo out of the Solomons, registration number 1-8-0-niner-2-4-6-0-niner. Calling Antarctica traffic control. Do you read me? Over." Β Β Other than Corporal Ferro's ,"We're in the pipe, five by five." (in ALIENS), there are few spoken words that have gotten me more excited.]
oh yeah.

Yeah, I dont think Ridley Scott was too concerned about the mechanics of spaceship travel, more about scaring the absolute crap out of the audience.
And yes totally aggree...as a fan of just about anything set in space, Alien really does have a great opening sequence!
Cheers!
