Description Starting my own 'How fast is your spaceship?' week of scifi nerdiness. Today, Star Wars...
What can I say, I love my scifi!

Pencil, ink on paper, Paint in photoshop.

EDIT: Fixed the spelling of 'Millennium' (d'oh!) and added the parsec disclaimer. If only George Lucas had put one in in his movie

I did actually consider doing that... but went with a Hogfather (Terry Pratchett book) image instead.

I still think I'm Han Solo.

This may be the coolest thing in the history of the world. Β Especially since I'm fantasizing that Jar Jar is horribly crushed under one of the landing struts.

XD

Clearly that's something I missed in this drawing... I'll have to remember it for next time

Glad you like this one Han... and remember to always shoot first!

Not only do I shoot first...but the others often don't shoot at all. Β They threaten to hand me over to the dangerous intergalactic mobbed-up garden slug with type 2 diabetes and I shoot the prick under the table. Β Morally JUSTIFIED?????!!!! Β

I think so, yes.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and much love and respect to you and yours, good buddy,

Tehehehe, I love the humour in this. It works on so many levels. Like, the Ford logo on Han's
shirt: Harrison Ford, but also because of the Ford Falcon. It works on multiple levels. And the
expression on Chewie's face is stupidly funny!

Hehehe - not sure how many non-Aussies would have got the Ford Falcon bit, but I'm glad you did
Glad you approve... Cheers and seasons greetings!

ObscuroArcanum In reply to Loopydave [2014-12-22 08:17:24 +0000 UTC]

Maybe some Americans will get the Ford Falcon bit too, considering Ford is an
American company - unless the Falcon was only an Aussie release.
Hope you have a great Christmas!!

I love this!

In my opinion, Star Wars has one of the coolest measurements of speed.
The idea being that when everything goes at "light speed" rather than "faster than light" speed becomes measured by how well the navi-computer can chart the shortest path from Point A to Point B...so yeah...

In short...nerdgasm.

Β  You must have had a great week! Thanks for the washing line and the dustbin. I always felt this is an unjustly ignored part of scifi. Startrek should at least have done an episode from the perspective of those who clean up the blood, do the washing and make the plumbing work!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Loopydave In reply to xy174j [2014-12-17 12:02:41 +0000 UTC]

Indeed, I have been having fun. So much fun, its been hard switching back to my commercial work
As for the domestic duties... they do seem to get ignored a lot in scifi. On the other hand, I'm not sure how interesting an entire episode of Captain Piccard washing his socks, making his bed and vacuuming the lounge room would be though.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

xy174j In reply to Loopydave [2014-12-17 17:04:54 +0000 UTC]

Β  Nope, that would be quite boring! It would have to be one of those changed perspective episodes, where the usually main characters are in the background of the story. I believe there's an episode like that in the next generation named "lower decks" or somesuch name and a DS9 episode entirely from the perspective of Jake and Nog. Part of me hates myself for being nerdy enough to know this...Β Β

nerveZero In reply to ??? [2014-12-11 03:08:13 +0000 UTC]

I am so glad you mentioned that Parsec is distance.
A light year is as well for those who don't realise. Drives me mental when things are 'lightyears ahead of their time'

(Light second and light minute are real measurements too. A pattern emerges. How far can light get in that amount of time. At 299 792 458 m/s, the answer is further than I'd like to walk)

Your work is superb. I don't understand why only some of your releases appear in my watched feed. Why don't all of them? Does an artist have to click something extra for something to appear in their fans watched lists?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Loopydave In reply to nerveZero [2014-12-13 03:24:59 +0000 UTC]

Not sure why they don't all appear... unless you have the mature filter on or something. Not that I post much 'mature' stuff.... immature, sure, mature, not so much!
Appreciate the kind words and I think I will have to start using light seconds as my new unit of measurement.... eg its .0000000000183 of a light second to the railway station.
Cheers!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nerveZero In reply to Loopydave [2014-12-14 00:44:31 +0000 UTC]

No mature filter on so I don't know. I often visit your gallery and find things I've not seen before.

Good thing about a light second is that we already know how far it is.
At 299 792 458 metres per second it is well roughly 300,000km.

So 1.83 e-10 x 299 792 458m means you live at the railway station (55cm from it) which is awesome. I love trains.

Ha. Light can really motor. The thing I like about this is that the sun is about 8 light min and 16 light seconds away so it gives a person an idea that it is way too far to walk. Although I expect the Sun's gravity would get one to the Sun eventually. I know what the acceleration due to gravity is on the Earth's surface, but I wonder what it is in free space at the distance of our orbit? With that number you could calculate how long it would take to fall into the Sun if you got ejected from the Heart of Gold with zero momentum. With your toothbrush and your towel.

Peace /Out fellow Earther.
