Haven't posted anything for over a week, coz I've been flat out working on this commercial piece. Client has generously let my post this to my site, so be respectful - not that you being a good citizen of DA wouldnt be!!. Pencil sketch then painted in photoshop 4000x7000 pixels. 60+ hours.Related content

how many layers do you do for something like this?

Depends on how confident I am feeling when I paint. Sometimes lots - a layer for this and a layer for that, and other times just the one. This particular piece i had different layers for the girl, the outfit, the hair, the ax, the shield and the text on the shield.

i would have thought it to be alot more, each one of those scales look as if theyre their own layer. so crisp and clear. i guess it might be because of the very high resolution though.
also i love the way you do the knees.

I made masks for the scales with the pen tool, so technically you are right about them having a layer each - just painted on the one outfit layer.
Lol about the knees! - I kinda have a thing about knees and try and pay attention to them when painting/drawing - artist friend of mine teases me about it!

Wow, this is incredible. Truly astounding. Man, you are just sooooooooo talented. I LOVE the strong white highlight on her right side. It's lovely how it's so strong, yet you have a subtle thin line that still outlines her body. Friggin' incredible. I've faved all three of these that you've posted in the hopes that I can learn from the master!

In this case its an industrial product. According to greek mythology it was Zeus's shield, though it has roots in Norse and egyptian mythology too - perfect for hanging on the wall to impress all your visiting ancient deities!
