Description    Running, running, and more running. When can we stop? My legs hurt and my lungs are on fire! Then there were arrows and bullets.
"Get them! Don't let them escape!"
This really can't get any worse! The uneven cobblestone of the streets was making me trip even with the tight grip of the hand incasing my wrist. My companion pulling me along as fast he could while avoiding the arrows that were attempting to stop our adventure. My asthma long since kicked in, made it hard for me to breathe, let alone even think. How did I get here? Why was I here?  That my friend is an interesting story.
You see, I had moved to England to study abroad from America. I was in my second year at Oxford, when this entire hullabaloo started. I majored in art and animation and it was the best time of the year, fall. At this time of the year things slowly started to settle down; especially in the city. People left to be with loved ones, taking time to relax, and just holiday type things. Slowly the streets got quieter. Not only were people starting to calm down but so was nature. The trees that lined the streets slowly changing color, different shades of red, orange, and yellow. The already fallen leaves crunched under people's feet as they tread on their way.  As per the norm in schools, fall break had started. But, as a foreign exchange student in college I didn't have anyone to share it with or, anywhere to go.  Not that I don't mind.  The calm and quiet was much better than my crazy and out of control family. And this is where my story begins.
On the way home from grocery shopping for the week, I began to feel the atmosphere of my surroundings quickly beginning to change.  The air got colder, tenser, like a thickening fog. I really hope it doesn't start to rain.  When all of a sudden, from my left came a very large brown blur, a very heavy brown blur in fact. The next thing I remember was seeing the sidewalk.  As I tried to straighten myself out, the 'thing' that hit me jumped up and began to profusely apology for knocking me over. Whoa, the world is all blurry and starting to spin. All the while this was happening, I noticed a white shimmer, almost like a glare beginning to form around us. That's weird. I'm probably just seeing things.
Not even paying attention, I got up and brushed myself off and went to pick up my things, but found that they were not where I fell. Where are my things? Why aren't they here?  Confused, I turned to the thing that hit me, which turned out to be a man.  He was tall and scraggly.  His hair was brunette and was wild and untamed, which matched his brown pin-striped suit. He actually looks pretty cute.  He seemed not to notice that I had picked myself and was not listening to anything he was saying.  He continued to babble on about how if he did not complete his work that a catastrophic event was going to occur. Ha! Like the end of the world?  I felt at this time, that this really had nothing to do with me and that he was just some sort of very strange person.
It was then that I noticed that my surroundings had changed from the somewhat busy London streets to what looked like an old alley way. Many people were hustling through past the alleyway. The sound of incoherent voices hit me like a truck, loud and hard. Even horses past by us. Wait! Horses?! Where am I? How did I get here?!
Quickly becoming cross, I pointed my finger at the man, "Where am I?! What are we doing here?!" There is no way I caused this; it has to be his fault! He finally stopped his babbling and took notice of his surroundings and looked just as confused as I was.
It became very apparent to me, as I looked around, that the surroundings that I knew as modern day London, was no longer so.  The facades of the buildings looked older and less weathered than I knew them. Things were made of stone not brick, the surface felt smooth like they had just built the building. The city no longer had the familiar skyline.  It looked more like the London I knew from my world history books, not the city that I had been currently living in.
The confused man turned to me and muttered to himself, "Well, this is a problem.  How did we do this without my TARDIS?"
I looked at him asked, "your what?"
"My TARDIS, you know, Time and Relative Dimensions in Space? It's basically a time machine and space ship."  He has a time machine and a space ship? Yeah right, what planet did this guy come from?
"Yeah and I'm from Mars," I retorted sarcastically, "Seriously, where are we?"
He mumbled to himself something about 'what a Donna thing to say'. "Well, the look of things we went back in time."
I found that I had now travelled back to the Victorian era of the English Empire.  My new companion has found that instead of having his own time machine to travel with, I have been given the special power of time travel without the necessity of the machine itself.  He explained that he was supposed to travel back to prevent to assist in the prevention of the assassination of the current queen of England, Victoria. That's actually really cool.  I was now his partner to assist him with his investigation and prevention.  In other words, his Sherlock to my Watson.  But as I was to find, my new found friend was none other than The Doctor.  I could not be in better company.  I always thought he was amazing and very smart.  Although, most of the time, I never really understood what he was conversing about. You know, timey-wimey wibbly- wobbly stuff. He just seemed to ramble on at times, but I was enthralled with just being in his presence.
As we continued through London, trying to discover more about the plot to kill the queen, the clues became more obvious, we were going to have to sneak into Buckingham castle without being seen and thwart the attempt on her life.  There was really no other way. This was going to be a difficult feat, but I was up to it.  Who knows what else I could accomplish today. I was in good company.
The Doctor and I watched the castle and at the opportune time, we managed to get through the gate and past the guards.  This was accomplished with an amazing trick by The Doctor with the use of, what I thought, was a plain piece of paper.  The guard looking at it saw a request to come to the palace written on the queen's letterhead.  I saw a blank piece of paper.  That was just too cool.
As we walked in I glanced at him and asked, "What did he see? It's a blank sheet of paper."
He grinned at me. "That blank sheet of paper is called psychic paper.  I say 'I'm a fireman' pull out my paper and it says I'm a fireman. Only a select few can't see it. Like Shakespeare, now there is a lovely fellow!" He then continued on about how he met Shakespeare with a girl named Martha.
We entered the palace and quietly searched the premises for the queen.  I had no idea how we would make her believe that she was in danger and, most of all, how the two of us were going to save her.  We finally found her in her chambers.
She let out a low hiss, "Doctor. How very nice to see you again; my arch nemesis." Arch nemesis? Doc what did you do to make her your arch nemesis?
"Hullo your majesty, we have some important business to discuss with you. So, if you don't mind, please don't call your guard." The Doctor calmly demanded of her.
With much trouble we were able to convince her that she was going to be killed by someone in her own guard unit.  We convinced her to sneak out the back to leave to one of her other residences.
As The Doctor and I were leaving, we were spotted by the guards in the palace.  We were then being chased through the palace and out to the streets.
"Why now, after we finished our task, do we have to be spotted and chased out of here by the guards?!" I managed to breathlessly yell at him.
He let out a hearty laugh and replied, "Because we have to go out with a bang! Besides, isn't this fun?!" He then grabbed my wrist roughly and pulled me along faster.
We began to run down the cobblestone streets.  Unfortunately, one of the guards got off a lucky shot with his rifle and hit me.  I cried out in pain. Quickly checking, I was amazed that I was unscathed.  No wound, no bleeding.  What was this sorcery?  Apparently, not only could I travel in time on my own, but I was impervious to attack.
The Doctor and I finally out ran the guards by finding another alley to hide in.  Oddly, it was the same alley we landed in.  Standing there, holding his hand, in the blink of an eye we were back in 2012 London.  The sights being very familiar and welcoming to me. Thank goodness.  I had never been so glad to be home. I slowly began to laugh to be then joined by the Doctor.
"We did it! My God, We really bloody did it!" I exclaimed as I launched myself at him for a hug.
"Yeah we did!" He replied in reciprocation of my feelings of joy.
I gathered up my things that were strung about and made my way to say good-bye. Just as I was about to say my farewell, he interrupted me.
"Do you wanna see her?" His sudden question silenced me.
"See who?" I asked in confusion.
"The TARDIS! That's who!" He exclaimed in excitement. "So, do you?"
I had to think about this. "An adventure for another time Doc; just to insure maybe one day, you'll come back."
He nodded to show that he understood. "Just know that this is the first time in a long time that I've had someone I enjoyed traveling with."
That statement made me smile. "Until we meet again Doc!" I waved and walked away.
Since that day, I have never had the wonderful powers return to me.  I have not traveled in time since, only in my dreams.  I would like to do this again.  Maybe, I'll get lucky enough to run into The Doctor again and I will get my wish.  In the meantime, I guess I will have to settle for finishing my studies for the summer at Oxford and dreaming about animation.
