Description The official press release for Halo: Silentium makes mention of the "Ur-Didact", stating that he and the Librarian are the last hope for sentient life in the galaxy. "Ur" is a German prefix meaning "original", suggesting that the original Didact was not actually executed by Faber; an extended description for the novel confirms this, revealing that the Ur-Didact actually survived, having been abandoned in a Flood-infested system.

UPDATE:
Left: Bornstellar-Didact/IsoDidact symbol
Right: Ur-Didact symbol (Halo 4 antagonist)

Didn't the Ur-Didact try to wipe out humanity?
(The IsoDidact activated the Halo array, but I think that's a little different)

Yes, he did

So the blue symbol is the Ur-Didact, the "good one" while the red is, of course, the Didact from Halo 4. I havent read the books yet but what I'm getting is that the Didact somehow replaced the Ur-Didact somehow. While the Ur-Didact could still be alive somehow. Possible coup d'etat?

I think you got it inverted, BLUE = Bornstellar/Didact and RED = Ur-Didact. At any rate, if you want spoilers about it, i am willing to tell. XD

wait, so the Didact we fought in Halo 4 was the Ur-Didact? He was the original? So Bornstellar was his replacement?

Yup. as to the fate of Bornstellar, we will soon find out in SILENTIUM. Ur-Didact is dead, killed by john when he (Ur-didact) fell into the conversion beam of the Composer in the end of Halo 4.

indeed. So the Ur-Didact may not even be dead, he could come back seeing as he was the "king of the Promethians" and could go in and out of the composer. I definitely see him coming back. I also see the Didact, Bornstellar, coming back and helping out Humanity like the Librarian kinda did. That would be cool. :3

Uh, the Composer got destroyed along with Ur-Didact's ship, so there won't be any comeback from him as the "KING of the PROMETHEANS".

The Ur-Didact is definitely alive at the end of Spartan Ops (set after the events of 4), and besides we learn that the slip space portal below the composer was sending the composed humans back to requiem, which is where Ur-Didact would have gone too.

Of course, this begs the question...which one is the villain in Halo 4?

Bornstellar also did not share the same hate for humans that the Ur Didact has in Halo 4.

The one in Halo 4 is the Ur Didact. He is shown in the terminals before and during the Human-forerunner wars. He is the same on and matches the size description of the Ur Didact in Cryptum. He is much too large to be Bornstellar. Bornstellar is a builder with a warrior servant imprint(Didact) while the Ur Didact is a warrior servant with a warrior servant imprint. If it was the Bornstellar Didact in Halo 4, he should have looked much different than the Ur Didact in the terminals.

I wondered. Well, this begs the question of the fate of the Bornstellar Didact. I suppose we'll have to wait for Silentium to find out... Still, looks like Chief has a Nemesis.

Also, to be honest, the Ur-Didact has some pretty honest reasons for hating humanity.

Thx for clearing this up!!

I have a hard time believing that the Didact would be the villain. He's certainly cold, angry and doesn't much care for humans, but he's not evil. If he is an antgonist, i hope that it's only temporary.
