Strength is valued on Homeworld, as well as intellect. Although Zircon is primarily a gem of science, she is also a veteran of the Gem War, and a seasoned warrior. It's fitting she'd want the same out of her young apprentice Onyx...who currently doesn't know how to properly make a fist, let alone competently use her weapon. Zircon's got her work cut out for her training that little idiot

and that's how Onyx got her ass handed to her again and again by Zircon until she learned to stop being so pathetic. In the current Earthbound Gems setting, Onyx's strength and fighting ability stem directly from the teachings of her mentor.

as to what the heck Onyx's weapon even is...eh. It's kinda a chain mace, but more of a big weaponized...yoyo...thing, really. Idk, I call it the "death oreo". It can be thrown and tossed, like a giant destructive yoyo, and in close combat, the whip part can be used to constrict and choke, while the mace part can be used to bludgeon, or used like a shield.

in the final panel poor Onyx is torn between complete mortification and inner schoolgirl swooning at being carried by powerful Administrator Zircon, hnnng squee totally worth getting punched in the face~
