Description "Yo, Midnight. Mind telling me why you're not out there with the rest of the band? We're setting up soon."

"Several reasons." Midnight fixed Chakra Blossom with her trademark withering glare. "The first and foremost being that I don't feel like interacting with those....vagabonds you call musicians. I've resurrected corpses that smelled better than your lot."

Chakra shrugged. "It isn't easy finding ponies who'll work for peanuts. We need to take whoever we can get. I dunno if you noticed, but the band ain't exactly rolling in cash these days."

"Of course I noticed. But money isn't the reason I've stuck around this long."

"Oh yeah?" Chakra smirked. "You've been doin' this out of the goodness of your heart all along? Aw, Glory, I'm touched." He pinched her cheek fondly, and she slapped his hand away.

"I've told you time and time again not to call me that, fool. My name is Midnight Abyss. Remember it. Morning Glory was the cutesy silly-filly name my parents gave me."

"Aww, but Morning Glory fits so much better. Perfect name for my perfect, sweet lil' ball of sunbeams and smiles." He teased, and dared to tickle under her chin. Briefly, Midnight considered casting a curse on his first born child.

"Chakra, I am not sticking around out of the goodness of my heart." Again, she smacked his hand away. "I'm here for the music. I've always been here for the music."

"....I know. You and me both." Chakra grew serious, a rarity. "The others are just here for the paycheck, even if its tiny. But you're different, Midnight. You get it. I can feel it when you sing. You're a real musician...like me."

Midnight scowled. "If that's the case, why won't you let me sing one of my songs? I've written book loads of songs, you've seen them. We need a new sound-and frankly, I'm tired of singing your songs."

"God, not this again." Chakra snorted. "Look, kid, I like your songs, I do. They're uh....unique, I guess. But the last time we performed one of your songs, you ended up resurrecting a horde of dead squirrels that made the crowd run away screaming, and I'm not sure I buy that you did it by accident."

"Connecting to the dead is my talent, Chakra. I like to make contact with the dear departed through music. That crowd should have been thankful-necromancy is a long lost art. You're always going on about how we need to spice up our shows....I merely upgraded our dull music concert into live, magical performance art."

"With corpses." Chakra growled. "This band is a sinking ship, kid. We won't make it easier on ourselves if I let you get up there and do your whole Queen of the Damned thing-how can we make any money if you depress the crowd with your borderline funeral dirges, then sic an army of the undead on them? I don't want to shut down your vision, but we have to, if we want to survive."

Midnight frowned. "....So that's it. We'll never perform any of my songs, then. We'll only play yours....your awful crooning about pretentious, flowery romance and....genitalia."

"Hey, sex sells." Chakra sighed. "What do you want from me, Glory?"

"I want you to help me play a song I wrote." Midnight folded her arms and stood up straight. ".....Or I quit."

"Oh, come on. You'll kill the band!" Chakra snapped. Volume had seeped into his voice, but Midnight wasn't cowed.

"Maybe....or perhaps my music will resurrect us instead. That is my talent, after all."

"There won't be anything to resurrect after we get booed into the next dimension." Chakra clenched his hands in his mane of dreads in frustration, before he opted to clasp his partner's hand instead. "We're a hoof in the grave already. I care about this band-I know you do too! We can't afford to gamble like this. C'mon." He squeezed tighter, and tried for a disarming smile. "Please. C'mon. Nighty, baby, don't do this to me."

Midnight frowned at the nickname. "We've got nothing to lose. We play my song, or I quit."

"But-!"

"Chakra." Midnight pulled her hand out of his grip, and let it rest on his shoulder. "When we started singing together, we promised we'd always put the music first. Not money, not fame, not even success. Don't you remember? We started this because we were voiceless then, and music gave us the means to speak. Right now, you're stifling my voice."

"Midnight-"

"Don't you trust me?" Midnight looked to him, and for a moment they held each other's gaze.

"Urgh....." Chakra let out a defeated sigh. "Fine. Alright. Go ahead. We're already on a sinking ship-might as well fire a torpedo at it. But when everything goes to hell, I'll have a never ending string of I-told-you-so's at the ready."

"What a positive attitude." The corners of Midnight's mouth twitched.  "And you say I'm the cynical one."

"You still are, but maybe it's a little refreshing sometimes." Chakra shrugged. ".....I guess not every song can be about genitalia." He snickered a bit, remembering her griping. "Or pretentious romance."

"No worries." The ghost of something almost, almost like a smile crossed her face. "The song I wrote is still one about love."

"Oh, yeah?" Chakra brightened.

"Yeah." Midnight patted his cheek, mostly out of condescension, but there was a sliver of affection there.

"....But mostly, it's about homicide."

even mooore anthro stuff
looking back, i remembered how i came up with midnight abyss and chakra blossom at the same time: , so i started thinking about the possibilities of what their relationship to each other could be. I decided that they used to be friends? Kinda. They met in music class as little kiddos and decided to form a band together in their teens. Midnight's gloomy goth music was constantly at war with Chakra's new age hippie sound. Their band was kinda crummy, but Chakra and Midnight were both talented singers and musicians and stuck around mostly because they enjoyed each other's company, not that they'd ever admit that

I honestly think Midnight Abyss is rapidly becoming my favorite out of all of your next gens. Love her personality--awesome special talent...and her style is incredible. Be it pony, human, or anthro...she just looks incredible.

I feel like Midnight Abyss and my character Lacuna would get along pretty well, considering Lacuna is a 'grim reaper' of sorts, deciding the fate of souls whether to live on or perish. Lacuna would be pretty intrigued with how Midnight could possibly bring souls back after being perished for a little or long time.
Just a thought.

I wouldn't mind being a zombie if it meant hanging out with Midnight.

For all her doom and gloom, she's a very likable character.

Ya, I get Chakra’s concern about Midnight talent, those little problems are why the Rock Opera of the Necronomicon wasn’t a great success.

For some reason, I actually pictured they would get into alot of conflict. Like, Chakra had a very crappy childhood which explains why he's such a messed-up stallion yet Midnight had what looked like a very happy life with loving mothers yet she goes and acts like such a pretentious edgelord. Both would be pretty bitter and cynical, but that wou;dn't guarentee positive interactions.

Look at how Skyla and Moondancer are.

Nonetheless, the odd friendship between screwed up hippie horse and edgelord mcangsty is pretty funny.

Awesome as always.

What if Midnight was roommates with another character whom most would doubt that she would get along with?
Someone such as Peachy or Rosemary

Hmm...very interesting Wouldn't Midnight be quite a bit younger then him though? She's around Peeb's age, right?

A sort-of friendship between them IS a very cool idea though. She's one of the very few ponies in his youth he could never manipulate, and honestly kind of has true affection for, and in turn he's like the only pony she'd admit was a friend (and have to be pushed very hard to say even that). I can see their friendship eventually blowing up and this hurting her more then she expected, and maybe that's part of the reason she decided zombies are much better friends then the living.

Lopoddity In reply to RoboHeather [2017-05-14 23:53:43 +0000 UTC]

Yep, she's a bit younger. That's why Chakra is the "leader" (though Midnight's been challenging his decisions more and more)

I like to think some good came out of their friendship before it ended. They probably confided a lot in each other....and I can see Chakra (maybe not so nicely) reminding Midnight to be more appreciative that she has parents that care about her so muh.

RoboHeather In reply to Lopoddity [2017-05-15 00:08:43 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I can definitely see that and admittedly is something Midnight should learn down the line. Yes, it is VERY frustrating to have parents that don't really understand you and might be a little condescending thinking they always know what's best, but I know her moms genuinely love her.

I can see both sides really. I've been in Midnight's shoes before with my mom when I was figuring myself out as a teen and I hated that it was a constant fight to express myself. However, I also had an extremely absent father and a terrible home situation, so I remember feeling very jealous of other kids in stable homes with parents that seemed to move the moon just to make them happy.

Sooo yeah, Midnight is definitely entitled to feeling a little smothered and wanting some adult independence to make her own path, but she needs to remember to be grateful that she has mothers that adore her more then anything. They're all gonna have to find some middle ground with each other eventually

And maybe someday, once Chakra has decided to be with Noct and Prim, he'll seek Midnight out and maybe play some music for old times sake.

Lopoddity In reply to RoboHeather [2017-05-15 00:38:06 +0000 UTC]

Exactly. I really like the idea of Chakra finding her again and annoying coaxing her into sharing a song with him again, for old times sake. After that, maybe Midnight would feel up to removing a few pins from her old Chakra voodoo doll.

Both have hard family lives with either absent parents or semi un-supportive parents. So yeah I can see this working out in their teens. In fact, I see these two forming a band after Chakra leaves Fluttershy's house and he and Rosemary have their upsetting goodbye.
