Idiots need to stop reading too far into things and then insisting they're right. You guys didn't make the piece? Then don't instantly assume you know exactly what the artist was thinking.

I love this. The colors, the duality, the style; everything is nothing short of amazing. They're mesmerizing pieces, they just really draw you in and hold you there. Don't let those ignorant comments drag you down, I bet half of them are just jealous they'll never be able to create something as beautiful as this.

I hate it when Internet people find something to be offended about....

I didn't even think about racist crap until I read the comments, lol.

Infact I was to mesmerized by those epic Mohawks. Keep being awesome dude!

Normally I don't feel inclined to comment, but I just wanted to express just how tiring it is to see this racism stuff appearing- honestly, the black people- monkey association came to my head BECAUSE of the comments- nothing in your paintings suggests that.. bloody hell... people. Carry on, you're fantastic.

If the monkeys did not have the same hair color that the children, not generate confusion that leads to racism. With the same color appears that you are generating a comparison.

Aside from this, the painting is excellent.

Racism is a Hate for a Race, Racial Is of or pertaining to Races. The connection that is seen between the 'monkey and child' is merely one that's made in ideological mindset that monkeys are a 'slur' of racist statements.

Essentially, I don't believe the Artist was trying to convey this Ideology in any way. As a matter of fact, it could be argued that the artist is celebrating this ideology in a psuedo-Racial way.

There is nothing wrong with art that challenges Ideology :3

gosh...what a jerks ( you three who think its racist) . If here would be only one canvas with WHITE ( as you prefer) kid, it would be fine for you? no racism? this "racism" is in your head, only.

we don't injurie you, so have some respect, seriously.

If you have no idea about what you painting, just tell us!
Or tell us what inspire you this ?

a lot of people on earth was massively killed cause of this compare about "there are not human. they are monkey!", and this is not just in our head unfortunately..

today and in certain religious, people approve it, and nourish hatred, if this is not your case say it, but it's still strange.

does a child look at the mirror and see there monkey? - no.
Does a child look physically like monkeys - no.
Is there any message that these kids are monkey-no.

sorry for being rude, nothing personal, but, if you see asian kid with monkey and get confused, if you see black kid with monkey and get confused ( no doubt you would be relaxed if you see white kid with monkey)

so it means a nail in your head about this fanatic racism stuff. This picture seems like a test... people who feel equal with all races are relaxed about this picture.

You refuse to answer about origin of the inspiration, no problem.

When i look at this paint i think the artist is mentally confused, and no doubt you are. I don't care if the artist is asian black or white, those paint are gross.

I don't think these people are saying they would prefer a canvas with a white child. The problem is, images juxtaposing people of colour with monkeys or apes are very, very common, and usually intended as an unflattering comparison. That type of imagery is so widespread and so associated with racism that it's very hard to see it and NOT see racism. I'm guessing you didn't know that or think about it when you made these pictures, as your responses suggest that you didn't deliberately put racist themes in your work, and you're clearly upset that people thought you'd do that. But a lot of people would find these images hurtful because of the broader connotations and history of that type of imagery, regardless of your intent. You shouldn't just take it from me, though: Google it, see what some actual people of colour have to say, and then decide whether you want to keep exhibiting this work, or not.

I hope you don't write me off as a jerk...I mean, I kind of am, sometimes, but I'm not out to make you feel bad. I thought you might want to know what the problem was; I would want to know, if I put racist imagery in my work, without knowing it. Sort of like when you have spinach in your teeth...you probably want to know.

i found your comment and opinion really cool and clear. I do not want to offend anyone! so how do you think? if i will add same huge canvas with WHITE kid and moneky to this series, will it be nice then?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

socar In reply to lora-zombie [2012-09-19 15:07:23 +0000 UTC]

I don't think adding a white kid would really help, just because the historical context surrounding the original two images would still be so overwhelming. Maybe using a different animal, though; it seemed like you wanted to make a joke about the kids' hairstyles, and the way the monkeys' hair looks--maybe you could use horses, instead? Horses' manes can look like mohawk hairdos, and I don't THINK there is any precedent for horses being used as a racist comparison (might want to doublecheck, just to be sure). Or maybe dogs, because of that old saying about how dogs and their masters start to look the same, after a while, and that can apply to anyone, regardless of race...I think there are some dog breeds with quite out-there hair, too.

Your painting skills are really good, so I am sure there's something you can do, here, to preserve the idea of silly hairstyles, but lose the monkey comparison.

I dunno but can't kids sometimes be compared to monkeys like "Oh you're such an energetic little monkey!" or like "They're just monkeying around don't worry about it they're perfectly safe there!"

People sometimes seem too quick to jump to saying things are racism now-a-days, but could be just me.

I MEAN I can see why you might find this that way, but at the same time it's more like you're almost twisting it to a view in such a way so you can call it racist.
