Apperently this idea was already used in Bioshock, unfortunatly I have not played it
BUT the idea is somewhat different in that the rounds are ina chain, and not just in a giant drum. And the chain extends on both sides. The major issue with this is figuring out how to get the chain to cycle. I do have more pics, they just arent scanned yet. I'll link to them when I get that far
It's a break open reload style where you replace the chain and the chain guide as the guide has covers outside the gun to keep the rounds from sliding out. (they arent fixed in the chain so as to alow auto fire.
The gun is also an Automatic. This feature is being reworked. It will will be select fire single/auto. But it's the blowback of the empty shell that recocks the hammer, then as the chain feeds the shell is slid back into place in the chain.

I used the concept of a chain pistol in an upcoming comic, however I represent it a bit unrealistically in the fact that the user of the gun is also a Magi, so he doesn't have to worry about how it works quite as much

Certainly, but you may have to remind me DX I have it somewhere in last years sketch book (it's not very good, I need to re-do it and update some things) but eventually I'll finish it properly
You may also be interesting in his gattling pistol-as the comic progresses he gets sick of the chain pistol and finds a way to use his magic to power it instead of electricity 
Ammo belt still requires a lot of space, but I haven't quite figured out how that'll work yet 
Won't have the final design on that one for some time to come though, I'm still in the process of getting the finer details of guns to show through. If you want to see about where I am skill-wise I'll have a drawing of a Dragunov SVD posted soon.

Well, I was caught drawing guns in school. I got in trouble. Now, I can't draw guns til' I'm in collage.
