Description
Okay it's Monday and I wanted to wait since by this point most should've seen it and I always wanted to check out the Godzilla trilogy movies on Netflix to confirm a few things I already figured from all previous Godzilla films so let's get into it.The movie itself I had a blast with and enjoyed it for what it was. This movie has groups divided between critics bombing the shit out of it while audiences enjoyed it and still acknowledging the faults it has. with critics on rotten tomatoes they never really go into why they hated it so it's easy to call out they're being paid to say stuff so they can go see the next free movie by Disney of feminism and the critics on youtube seem pretty divided on this one too. Mr. H, SC Reviews, Andre the Black Nerd, and a few others enjoyed it while you then have a few who seem disappointed and act as if this movie has done something wrong and hated that element to the point they claim it drags the film down.
the common problem the 2 sides have in common is the human characters. now on the extreme side they claim the humans should've had more focus which already doesn't make much sense on account of how other Godzilla films have done the human characters in similar ways before so giving this one a hard time for doing what it's predecessors did as the long running formula seems odd. in my opinion the human characters are the weakest element cause you usual stereotypes in a Godzilla movie ranging from "the one guy who hates Godzilla", the oddly done possible romances. yeah if you look at the dad and the Asian chick that had a bit of how most human romances click in Godzilla films even if that wasn't intentional for the story you can kind of get that vibe while at the same time dealing with his ex wife I guess is what she is now, you also got Ken Watanabe as our always cliched character who supports Godzilla lol, and just to add American stereotypes we got the overly excited white nerd from independence day, that one black guy who's always gotta cool slang when talking about Godzilla, and the one military commander who's that neutral ground but you still kinda like... wait was that the chick who played one of the wakadan guards in black panther? lol, and of course our most common of Godzilla tropes "The military who always view Godzilla as a threat and try to kill him" along with "the one kid in Kaiju films who understands monsters better than the adults".
so in case you couldn't tell yeah this is both understandable in why you would be annoyed or not bothered by it. To me this is pretty common Godzilla ground. even at his best and especially worst films this human character archetypes are always the ones to pop up so why is this more heavily criticized than other Godzilla films? what's that? an environmental theme? oh that's right for the critics who hated this movie their issue is that this movie didn't try to promote propaganda like captain marvel did. and no don't worry they do have a environmental theme in this movie but that's a common thing in other Godzilla films too where you know Godzilla destroys a lot of human civilizations and leave radiation hanging and some iterations even have it where it's cause Godzilla life can start over and grow in the places he destroys which is why he's both protector and destroyer. in this version a bit of both which they do dive into lore reasons for it and honestly for this interpretation of Godzilla it works. and that's what every new Godzilla should try to be. example is I didn't really like shin Godzilla that much but I can appreciate the attempt of making a new one even if it's just for a one shot film. I come one guys we even have an actual Evil Godzilla where Ghidorah was the hero in that movie. but as for others who had a problem with the human characters all I can is you don't need to like it but for the love of god don't throw that whole "I'm a huge fan of Godzilla!" while acting like these common tropes in are something you should be mad about. any fan of Godzilla would know these tropes and to be fair we all asked for "Godzilla" movie and Legendary did deliver on that part of the film.
let's move on to the other stuff. The visuals, sound, and soundtrack. these 3 things were amazingly done in this movie. The classic Kaiju we've known for the longest have never looked more amazing and yeah I do like my old Godzilla films fine but this one actually gives expressions to the kaijus than even Shin Godzilla for me kind of lacked. I know expressions on the kaiju may seem odd but that little detail adds in to how you can know what's going on and what some of these Kaiju are thinking sometimes. especially in the case of Ghidorah where you can definitely see how the middle head is the one giving commands while the left head is the one often getting picked on by the middle head lol these expressions are pretty well done to the point you could make up your own dialogue for all of them just for fun and laughs lol the sounds these monsters made were very well done and I liked them fine although I do wonder how Ghidorah's Japanese sound would fit into the legacy one? lol Mothra looked very amazing. yeah they did change her design a bit where now she's got pincer like claws for close range stab attacks but overall she's the same Mothra we all know who supports Godzilla as the Queen of Monsters. Rodan was quite impressive and I liked how they kept in the fact Rodan flies so fast he causes destruction on towns and cities just by flying. Godzilla looks a lot better than the 2014 one. the musical score in this movie was very well done and they even kept the classic Kaiju themes from the Japanese films so when you see Godzilla you're gonna hear his theme as he roars. the visuals in the battles are kind of what you saw last time mostly in the dark and what not but they dod keep some of the battles in the day but they're mostly focused at night and in the rain which again I can't really said if this is a negative or not on account of the fact most Godzilla films end at night time too but I can understand the whole wanting to see them more argument since even then you could still clearly see Godzilla and who he's fighting so it's a 50 50 thing honestly.
the worst part of the movie would have to be in the fact there's an eco terrorist group pretty much trying to end humanity cause they think we're totally fucked and deserve die and yada yada yada. you know the drill and you've heard how Eco Terrorists think where their logic and reasoning makes no sense. Now here's where I do mean when I say this is the weakest point of the film but looking back Ghidorah's orgin while yeah it does change depending on the version and era of Godzilla his origin story this movie is loosely adapted from was of a similar concept where an alien race made him to end all life on planets cause for some reason that's the logic they go by where ghidorah granting death is a salvation and what not. so again it's dumb in this movie but I can't really call the original films logic any different or better either. it's just one of those things you kind of expect in Toku style movie where the villain motives aren't always gonna be anything logical or smart for that matter. cults and ecoterrorists are always dumb by default. so yeah I do agree on that being the weak element of the film but it's also important to note even previous Godzilla movies have had similar or sometimes dumber villains you often forget were even there. and it's a monster movie guys. People are gonna make dumb choices in these things and honestly that's fine just due to the fact we don't really know how we'd act in those situations if they were real. it's easy to talk a big game but you'll find reality is a lot harsher too.
My favorite parts outside of the Kaiju themselves is definitely Ken Watanabe. I liked his part in the movie overall and I even felt sad he died in this to help Godzilla get back on his feet. it's kind of touching when you see it. now there is the argument we don't see enough of him but here's a small argument to that. the monsterverse movies by themselves would leave gaps of knowledge however unlike others these movies have official comic books and novels that explain things after certain movies as an inbetween before the next one comes out such as what value does Ken Watanabe's watch hold for him in this movie, how exactly is Kong gonna be ready to fight Godzilla where it explains by the 1990's kong on skull island grew to the point he was only about 50 to 70 feet shorter than Godzilla was in the 2014 film. so I guess my point is there is a consistent story here it's just not all of it made it to film and had to be put in other media to expand the lore of the monsterverse. that being said I can understand if even knowing that you feel like they could've add more detail if you don't read the comics or novels which I do recommend if you got the time as they are very well written and have a pretty good art style.
So overall what's my rating? It's definitely a 4 out of 5 movie for me cause it's pretty much a Godzilla movie. there is the argument on how the camera does go back and forth between the kaiju and humans like in the 2014 movie which I argue this movie manages a lot better and also yeah Godzilla is the main focus but as much you may or may not like it the human characters always have their parts to play so cutting out of a fight isn't anything too weird honestly and given all the Godzilla films including the Netflix ones this isn't the worst one. there is room to improve on how they can balance it out more which is part of why I'm giving it a 4. is this one worse than 2014? no in a lot of ways it's better and it's definitely not the worst Godzilla movie. Godzilla has hit much lower points in both Japan and the US as both a movie franchise and Tv shows as it has hit high points too. So I do think critics are wrong about how they are going about judging this movie but any who give actual constructive criticism on this movie have some valid points about it which like every film is always gonna be brought up. We all have our favorite interpretations and despite what some moronic websites like Variety say, Godzilla isn't gonna disappear. much like DC and Marvel heroes, Godzilla has proven he can withstand the test of time where even at his lowest points fans still cheer for him and also yell out his name to pretend he's chasing them lol. So, whatever you think of this movie know it's definitely not the worst one and for better or for worse Legendary Godzilla has definitely earned his spot among his other Godzilla Era brothers.
what did you think of Godzilla King of the Monsters? did you like it? did you hate it? and after this one which versions of Godzilla are your personal favs? put them all in the comments below.

1. FUCK CRITICS
2. sucks its not doing too well, especially with how fan oriented the movie is, and as a huge Godzilla/Gamera/Kaiju fan, my ONLY gripe honestly is how much CGI Hollywood uses compared to Tokusatsu

True but unlike when legendary did power rangers, the CGI compliments the kaiju more especially when it comes to giving them expressions

I freaking loved it, and this coming from a life long fan who has seen just about every Godzilla movie from the original to this one. And this might actually be my favorite out of all of them.
It had so much classic Godzilla in it I was freaking out. I was absorbed by the monster action and the score. And the one thing I loved most from the human story was when Dr. Serizawa gave his life for Godzilla. It was a reverse of what happened in the original film and showed the true message of this film.
In the original Godzilla was a metaphor for the terror of the Atomic Bomb. He was created out of Japan's fear and anxiety from the attacks they had suffered. But Godzilla has become so much more since then. He's become one of the defining symbols of Japanese culture.
And much of what he classically represented is here but it's a different message now. Now it's not about fighting against the terror of the bomb but about accepting the trauma of the past and living in balance with both nature and nuclear power. That's why one of the last things we see Serizawa do was look at his watch, his father's watch from Hiroshima, when the first bomb was detonated. It's not denying the horror that was but accepting the reality that is and finding balance for the sake of the future to come.

This movie is just amazing and what the "critics" of RT say about this movie, it just doesn't matter. It's just a movie of monsters that fight with other monsters, and it's great to see something like on the big screen after so long. It's really worth watching this movie and, by the way, I plan to see it again. Greetings.

I thought the human drama and the kaiju action were well balanced, plus I did get invested in the human characters.
Now as for my favorite incarnations, to me its Godzilla Final Wars, all for the action.

Also, I freakin HATE rotten tomatoes. Iβd stop listening to them after Venom. And on top of that, their opinion doesnβt matter based on 87 reviews.

unfortunately they're pretty much owned by Disney and they are trying to make people listen to them as if they're only ones who matter in terms of opinions even though none of their critiques explain anything.

Actually, Rotten Tomatoes is owned by Time Warnerβs, Fandango, and a bit of Comox. And if they are worshipping Disney, then how come they give Dumbo a low rating?
