So, if you heard of this one through youtubers then you probably heard all the negativity surrounding this particular isekai anime. Now, from a critical standpoint it does have a lot of faults to be sure when you look at it critically but one thing a lot of anitubers from anime man to mother's basement overlook is unlike other isekai anime this one isn't necessarily trying to be anything that goes on re-zero or konosuba sides of the spectrum. just reading the light novel by itself and noting the fact it has a pretty decent fanbase in japan says that all it wants to be is simple and straight forward and just have fun with what the author is doing. even noting that it is about average at best.

Is it the worst isekai anime that's come out in recent years? hell no. I think we can all definitely say we have seen much worse where most don't have much of an identity to them or even know what they wanted to be. it's definitely not the best either but I don't think that's what the author is aiming for either. like a lot of isekai stories this one looked to want to experiment with a few things that just happened to get attention and got a following in the light novels. I mean hell just the opening and end credits alone should've been a dead give away to anyone this is one isekai anime that wasn't made to be taken seriously since unlike others that have failed this one knew what it was about and wasn't ashamed to stay that way and you gotta ask yourself, is it really wrong to have some actual simplicity for once? if you can watch hocus pocus or corpse bride when those are pretty simple films to enjoy this one I think falls into that category too. we know it's not that great but we're not stupid enough to call it a classic or timeless either cause again this gave away on what it was about and didn't care to be anything big or complicated cause we've been bombarded with that for years. hell dragon ball, dragon ball z, and even GT weren't really anything complicated either. simple stories with straight forward results. yeah you could argue Cell saga had the most twists and turns but that had about everything a shonen jump series could do as well it just amped the hype in various spots and decided to do character growth. you know before the buu saga and most of super kind of retconned some of those.

so when it comes to this anime and it's novels I think it's perfectly fine to enjoy it for what it is cause how often do you get a breather from overly complicated series with constant twists at every turn then you have people in comments spoiling certain parts of the story to you to explain the deeper complexity of what's already complex and convoluted. i will say that while I do like the harem fine but I can understand if certain people find the age gaps a bit unsettling but the reason this doesn't bother me as much is cause given the setting and our own history it's not odd to hear to marry at very young ages or hear you got engaged to someone older than yourself. I mean hell Zero no Tsukaima had Louise engaged to a guy who was bout 8 to 10 years older than her at youngest, oldest could've been twice her age in the first season. Let's not also forget we cheered and enjoyed reading fairy tails of princesses who were of similar ages as the girls in this anime getting their prince especially during Walt Disney's time and the 90's era of disney movie's where snow white was about 14 or 15 years old when she got her prince, Aurora from sleeping beauty and Jasmine from aladdin were about 16 and 15 years old same with ariel from the little mermaid being 16 when she got married. While I do get the sensible concerns but at the same time this also ties in to this being fiction set in worlds that don't follow the modern reality laws and exploring just the fictional ideas where things go can be interesting and I think we've a lot of those concerns from focus groups get the better of us in acting like this could be the worse thing we see. Hell Disney let themselves get wrapped up in focus groups one of the few changes in their live action remakes for Belle and Jasmine is upping the ages where it takes away that part of the fiction and bit or reality that was known to happen.

My main reason for bringing this up is just cause a lot of the arguments made by anitubers is cause for some reason or another they act like this was the worst thing to come out in recent years and essentially miss the simple point of this was a series that was never meant to be taken that seriously especially with how the anime presented itself. when reviewing anime of any season it's always important to note certain factors like those to know how to review them as far as this series goes it's simple enough to enjoy and very straight forward with the genre tags it has under it but is pretty average in animation where even then you go get the impression this wasn't meant to be taken as seriously when you review something like rezero or naruto where your level of enjoyment for this one just depends if this is your cup of tea or not.
