yeah Japan does these things early and also I am aware of SAO's most recent episode and to answer in case you ask
No the attempted rape scene in last week's episode did not piss me off cause unlike most people today I'm not some easily triggered idiot as I have read plenty of fiction that had more graphic details than that and have seen a lot of Rated R movies from the 80's since I was 9 years old. so you're gonna have to hit me pretty hard to get me triggered and as a former Human Resources of the Army I have had to help deal with soldiers who did actual Rape and the traumas and other things that happen in fiction or in this case for SAO is over the top to be in any way relatable to anyone. what does make me angry however is this is Reki Kawahara's 3rd or 4th (if I missed one in the novels too) time that he has used this kind of set up for shock value and it's more insulting that he randomly apologizes for this one but never for the other 2. as actors the Japanese VA's are used to this and they've had either minor or big roles in hentai before so take a minute to absorb that. Reki Kawahara's writing was never the best and the times he used Rape to get a shock value out of people in both the novels and anime is just dumb. in cases like Berserk and Goblin Slayer you're mostly given those contexts and visuals to make sure you understand in their worlds there are evils in the world you can't always reason with but in SAO well this is a case of constant not knowing what it's trying to be or trying to do. if this were trying to be something along the lines of .Hack and other similar series with it's own interpretation then fair enough or if it was ever clever actually look at different online games and actually apply their rules in how one can win by looking for the rules and loopholes to tip the odds in the hero's favor which is not the case cause the rules are made in ways that guarantee Kirito will somehow win it.Β
Reki Kawahara's depictions and attempts at writing it doesn't feel any kind of warranted or even needed in any of these cases cause first 2 of them at least happened in virtual settings so unless you're going to me that there game systems are broken or this will have real mental scars on the players then obviously you already something wrong with the world setting since even Doujin writers and artists for SAO took the time to explain how the virtual tech can be used for corrupting the mind. in the case of Sinon...well on top of already being a stupid mystery with no mystery to it that came off as again not knowing what the fuck Kawahara wanted this to be and was going back and forth in obsessed stalker or psychopath since Japan has plenty examples to follow off that. all 3 of those in the anime at least just feel so out of place and never really feel like they were warranted and needed in the first place and in all 3 instances are the times roughly 70 to 90 percent of people regardless if they're fans or not end up getting pissed off at Reki Kawahara since like I said for all things SAO is for some people those 3 instances just felt the most out of place in the story and it amazes me how Reki Kawahara never tried took the time to learn from his mistakes or try to learn how he should go about this. if you're gonna use rape to implement something dark or traumatic then one way for a series like SAO to do it is imply it but don't go into details. plenty of other anime and manga and light novels imply rape has happened or in other cases imply that affairs have happened without needing to go into those details while leaving the impression you know it happened. so 3 cases of the same concept happened in SAO and regardless of how he's apologizing for this one. this one not the other 2 keep in mind and it just tells me he's either not understanding why for his fans this is a problem and comes off as out of place or doesn't grasp why this didn't feel needed since it just shows he does not know how to go about setting up a conflict on what's for the most part a T rated series.

yeah and this goes into what the nostalgia critic said in this week's episode when he reviewed the nutcracker 3D in how this is a case of not understanding the positives and negatives of things and shows this is clearly trying to just get a shock out of people without a a reason behind it and this is the third time Reki Kawahara has this in the series and it's hypocritical when he recently publically stated how he was uncomfortable writing this which begs the question why would you write that in if that's the case!?
on top of that he's selling this as a "T" rated series when kind of shows in the worst ways. it doesn't help this seems to be the only way he can ever seem to get attention and the proof is in the other 2 times he used this concept since season 1 and 2 biggest talking controversies is the fact when this shit happens people talk.

Remember when SAO was a story about people trying to survive a VR game and nothing else. I miss the first half of season 1.

If they had just ended the season with the 100th floor final boss battle we wouldn't have gotten that Elf Arc. Or at the very least said Arc would've been delayed.
A real question is who the hell is green lighting the rape stuff? If it was a hentai or something I'd get that, but this is a mainstream series that kids could potentially get access to. What if they see that!? I certainly wouldn't want my little bro or my younger cousin seeing it. It'd probably scar them.

That is the other issue with this since he didn't really aim this for mature audiences he promoted this for everyone so he really should've given this more thought

After the second time this happened I'm beginning to think this might be a fetish the guy has. Could be wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.

I think he's confusing what he sees in hentai for how to depict as something bad or traumatic since with goblin slayer and berserk you can at least tell the authors 8nderstand how to use it and how to depict it. Reki give a the impression he only knows rape through hentai scenarios and only sees on type of guy that rapes.
