Description
So, after a long hiatus, I'm back with another "Ultimation"...THis time it's Ryu, the wandering karate master with seemingly unlimited ki.
The man known only as Ryu is a legend among men.
It is said that he was the greatest fighter in Japan. He uses a hybrid style of Karate based on Kyokushin and implimenting non lethal techniques from an older form of karate known as Anatsetsuken. He focuses on the techniques from both styles that waste the least motion. "Power through technique". In his 21 years in japan he only lost one match. He longed to see how his skills would fair against fighters all over the world. After defeating every master in Japan, he decided to travel the world.
His most famous match was against the "Emperor of Muay Thai", Sagat. This was a match that lasted several hours and ended in the Muay Thai master's body left scarred and broken.
Not much else is known about him.
His exploits seemed to have captured the attention of the international criminal organization Shadowlaw.
It's leader, M. Bison has been following Ryu's career. Shadowlaw
scientists have compiled research based on the aftermath of Ryu's battles. All evidence implies that this man possesses an immense amount of bio-electric energy or Ki/chi as it's called in Asia. This is exactly what Bison has been looking for.
Interpol has seen what this man is capable of and, he may be exactly what interpol has been looking for and the answer to stopping Shadowlaw once and for all.
So, for Ryu I figured I would pay MORE homage to the man on which he is based, Mas Oyama. I saw "Fighter in the wind" and that film is slow but awesome. It was the basis for this design. I wanted Ryu to look like a serious wanderer. Like some dude who lives in the mountains when in Japan and the streets when in the USA. He's dirty, his Gi warn and faded. He looks like fighting is his life. I got rid of the trademark gloves because honestly, someone who fights this much would tear through em' like they were nothing. Wraps just seemed more hardcore.
And the hair, he had to have some wildness to him. Like someone powerful that could never be contained(like what Bison wants to do). I think it worked.
Hope you dig!
More on the way!!!

WOW!!! That iz awesome! Digging the long hair! Although I can't imagine ryu with a lot of facial hair, u would think that a wanderer wouldn't be a well groomed as capcom depicts him year after year after year after....u get my point. I see you designed him with no shoes huh sir! Imagine getting power kicked by diz dude. LMAO! Kick you back to last week and shit! lol

lol but forreal Dude, it would be awesome to see this design implemented in another sf installment. I can't even begin to imagine how much his fighting style would have evolved. He probably would have to be a boss or sumtin! His rightful place, if i might add. Not some wack ass clone with no specialized moves of his own. (sf4 the disgrace) I mean the storyline would make sense to have the winner of these tournaments all these consecutive years be "the boss." (the person to beat) I'm just sayin.

You already know hommie.
This is why I stick with TEKKEN.
Jin went from being the generic Japanese lead, to becoming THE BOSS.
More games need to pay attention.
Yes we come for the fight, but the situations in which we fight should evolve too!

I figured I should comment here.
Very nicely done with Ultimate Ryu, definitely reminiscent of Fighter in the Wind's version of Masutatsu Oyama.
Will you do Ken?

Glad you dig.
I might do ken.
I have something in mind for him. It might piss off fans, but sometimes you gotta be controversial.

Nice progression you gave him, and I am absolutely blown away by the thought you put into his back story.
A+

Thanx bro!
A coherent back story is something he desperately needed.
As for the design, I'm glad you dig.
Some change isn't always a bad thing. I wish I could convince CRAPCOM of this.

You're welcome.
Trying to get Capcom to switch to thinking outside the box might effect the bottom line, so no chance of that.

Well, after seeing that they contracted Ninja Theory to re-imagine the new DMC, it's not too unbelievable.
I just doubt they check DA at all.
