Description
As I wait, I had some time to learn about the place. This village is called Ark? That’s kind of a silly name, next thing you’ll know is that there’s someone called Noah and… oh fuck me sideways.
There is, indeed, somebody called Noah. A young man who works as the local carpenter, and somehow he’s got his hands full of work, too. When I ran into him, he was finishing a chair or something. I look around the place, as unremarkable as it was. No dogs, no family, just him living alone with his tools.
Anyway, his frame doesn’t seem weak. I find some weapons and gear while looking around the house, I’m guessing he failed at adventuring and came back empty handed not too long ago. If anything, the most interesting bit of this is that this Noah guy lives right next to my test subject, it’s been a day now, let’s see how he’s doing.
Oho, he has covered his mouth with a piece of cloth, how considerate of him. The woman next to him doesn’t seem to appreciate the gesture, though. I don’t even have to get in her mind, her face alone has concern written all over her it. She’s most likely convinced the guy is about to die horribly.
He won’t, but she has no way of knowing that now, does she? After all, this special blend I’ve copied is designed to make the patient feel miserable but not to cause any severe or long lasting effects. I don’t sense any mages in here, so this people has no way of knowing the nature of my little present, and watching his fellow neighbor suffer should, over time, give them a nudge in the right direction.
So it was that a relative of our target guy reached out to Noah and explained the situation to him. “He’s been trembling in pain since this morning” she told him, “we have no idea of what it might be because he can’t even speak.” The carpenter didn’t bat an eye, he just nodded and left somewhere. The tone of his conversation didn’t seem to suggest the two were in bad terms, interesting.
He got the village’s doctor there in no time. The old man took a mix of herbs and smashed them together, then prepared some sort of tea. Naturally, our patient did not want to drink the stuff, and so Noah was asked to hold him in place so he could receive his “treatment”, haha
The funniest part of it was that this doctor just had no clue of what was ailing the guy. He just prepared a potion to ease the pain and maybe have him explain what was going on. That’s a good thing, mortals have to be lively and creative. The most interesting part was when he spoke to Noah in private.
“Look.” Said the doctor. “I’ve never seen a disease like this, the only thing I could think of is that somebody who made contact with other races acted as a carrier for a foreign disease.”
Noah’s brow furrowed upon hearing this, as if he took it like a personal attack.
“Are you blaming me for this?” He said.
“You fought the orcs, didn’t you?”
Wait, you’re telling me this guy was a hero? Damn, it must suck to fight for such an ungrateful people.
“That was four years ago, if I caught anything from that, it would have happened much earlier.” I’ll call him Noah, Paladin of common sense.
The doctor just shrugged. Not that I blame him, he can’t do anything about this anyway. Noah, on the other hand, does seem to be blaming him right now, or at least, he’s angry to be blamed for his neighbor’s predicament. In the meantime, the one who is to blame for the situation is narrating these events for you.
“Look.” Noah spoke again. “I heard something about an elven village nearby, I’ll go and buy some medicine from them, can you keep Robert alive in the meantime?”
The doctor’s hand moved across his chin, as in calculating how much he could get out of this. He then just shrugged and extended his hand to Noah. “I think I can, but don’t take too long, we don’t even know what we are dealing with.”
“Three days, that’s all I need.”
And with that, the two parted separate ways.
Death Knight Restoration Project is a collaborative story, all events, characters and locations are completely fictional. Any similarities with real world people or events are just pure coincidence.
