Description

The Norjordian Giant Wyvern, Norjordian Frosthorn, or Jotundrak to the inhabitants of Norjord, is one of the Largest Wyvern species found within Waldia. Standing nearly 6 m tall and 15 m long and weighing in at three and a half tonnes, the Jotundrak is a gargantuan creature. The Jotundrak is a True Drakonid or true dragon capable of breathing fire, unlike false/lesser Drakonids. Like all wyverns, the Jotundrak is incapable of supporting its weight on its wings on the ground; as such, it can only walk on its hind legs, unlike the Drakes and dragons that also call Norjord their home, of course, as is the case with most wyverns this makes them generally better flyers, as their wings are solely designed for flight. Due to their size and power, they are one of the alpha dominant predators within the Norjordian ecosystem. Due to this and their size, there have never been that many Jotundraks. Scholars roughly estimate that there are 500-1000 individuals within Norjord. However, this remains a rough estimate as very few scholars have ever gone to Norjord, and none have ever been witnessed outside of Norjord. Their diet is a varied one; unlike most true dragons, they don’t appear to be too picky about what they eat, a behaviour most likely explained by their home and the need to not be picky over food to survive winter, they have been known to hunt and eat other dragons, livestock, Whooly rhinos, Hart, elk, Mammoths or behemoths as they are known there, as well as griffons, giant eagles, even sea serpents and whales have been observed being hunted and eaten by Jotundraks. Females and Males are distinguishable through their set of impressive horns and, to a degree, size. Males tend to be larger than females, yet there have been cases of females who have reached massive proportions. The key difference is the horns; males’ horns are thicker than the females’, as they use these for both displays of strength and age and in their brutal fights over mating. Jotundraks are known to mate for life, but a much larger male can sway a female to leave her old mate if he proves impressive enough. Debate rages between scholars over whether or not the Jotundrak hibernates. Some argue that it does, like many other species of animal found within Norjord, but others say that their metabolism and lifestyle do not permit this. It is hard for locals to tell if they do because of their rarity. The relationship between the Norjordians and the Jotundrak is complex; on the one side, they deeply revere and respect it, and it is considered a special creation by the gods. Drakon, the God who is the personification of Dragon in Norjord, takes the form of a mighty 4-winged Jotundrak. However, at the same time, it is considered a feat worthy of some of the greatest sagas in Norjord to hunt a Jotundrak and succeed as well as this, the danger to the livestock and Horfur and humans is well known; even the dwarfs of the mountains dare not risk their wrath. What is clear is this mighty beast both inspires terror and admiration, a hardy survivor able to not only survive but thrive within Norjord and grow to a strength rivalled by almost any mainland Drakonid, in a way as the Norjordians would say, a Personification of themselves.

They can fly, they can’t support their bodies on the ground with them, basically they can’t walk like Smaug in the hobbit

They wish but these guys are basically the kings of Norjord and they like to remind folk so they tend to be quite aggressive. In terms of atrophy their wings grow with them only way they can fly and support their body weight in the air
