Ioseb Besarionis dze Jughashvili was a famous priest of the Georgian Orthodox Church. When the Communists took the Russian government by storm, they also took complete control of Georgia which just declared their independence. Under the rule of Lenin and later Trotsky, the communist government created many purges against the non-communists including the religious groups. Jughashvili had always helped the people wanted by the communist government by hiding them and/or provide them shelter while putting himself at risk. Finally, Jughasvili was taken to one of the gulags and died there. He was venerated and canonized as Saint Joseph of Georgia.
