No, so far I only used the normal Blender renderer. Cycles looks even more confusing

yup, the cycles shaders are a bit more complex, but I`ve never managed to get such good results with the "normal" render. (my tries with it has been ultra crappy)

Aye, Cycles appears to be much more powerful - there are a lot more options for material nodes, for example. I might try it for my next 3D renders, but currently, I'm working on other things ^^"

Cycles is also much easier, because you don`t have to care about shadows or global illumination.
I should also spend more time on other projects (especially on my bachelor thesis), but just out of curiosity on which kind of things are you so working?

I'm a programmer, these days I'm mostly working on getting a job
Good luck with your thesis. I'm glad I got mine done earlier this year!

is it difficult to get a job?
How many candidacies do you have to write?
Do you have a bachelor or master degree?
Which payment to do expect?
btw. I`m studying computer science. (sorry if I`m a bit to curious)

It depends on what you're looking for, I suppose. Big companies or rather small ones. It also depends on how far you're willing to travel. I can't really say much as I only started looking, haha. Just a bachelor degree here, I don't think the master is worth it, personally. I'd rather take two years of working experience over two years more studying - if not even three years.

Sorry if I`m a bit to curious, but do you know if the specialization has big effects onto the job?
I mean is it like I can program so I can work as programmer or is it more like I`ve computer graphics as specialization so I`ve to implement computer graphics stuff?

If you check job offers in IT, you'll see that everyone lists expected knowledge. Computer science is a very broad subject, but employers have specific needs. If experience in computer graphics is required for the job, such a specialisation should be helpful. If you have no clue how to develop for mobile devices, it'll be hard to get a job focusing on mobile development. However, specialisation courses aren't the only way to gain knowledge - if you never had a class on computer graphics, but just happen to know a lot about it, that should do the trick as well.

thankies. :3
I`ve never learned such stuff at the uni. In fact sometimes I wonder if they know that there`re also career chances outside of the uni. X3
Did you learned such stuff at the uni or did you learned it during the job search?

University doesn't prepare you for working in the real world, no xD
The university I visited regularly offers consultation hours on career planning, jobs and applications. I'd been to lazy to visit those, though.

I`ve been even to lazy to look if my uni offers such consultation hours, but maybe I should look for them one day.
All I`ve done so far was asking other students, goggling and spamming through the internet. (sorry for the last one)
btw. do you need such annoying stuff like a personal data sheet or is it more relaxed in the IT?

We got spammed by e-mails to inform students of such offers.
Yea, a CV is pretty much a must-have for any kind of job application. If you don't attach one, they'll wonder why not. It shouldn't be "annoying" though. You create the thing once and then just keep updating it. Keep in mind that the person who gets your job application is most likely a human resources manager, not an IT person. Nothing is ever relaxed when it's about money

I`m going to take care more about this spam mails in the future.
We got spam mails about the application to the master, so there`re probably also events about that.
My main problem with CVs is that it leads always to discussions about the German education system.
To make it short we`ve 3 kinds of school in Germany. ( A, B, C )
A should be more dificult then B.
B should be more dificult then C.
After a few years of basic education I`ve been sorted into C.
After finishing C I`ve visited a secondary school get the B level.
After finishing B I`ve visited a secondary school get the A level.
The worse thing is now B and A have been much much easier then C.
And even my studies are less critical then C. (many people who made the A directly are not passing the studies)
This shouldn`t be a problem if the human resources manager isn`t a big fan of the German education system.
I just hate this piece of shit so much that I`ve to attack it while speaking about it. (even during a job interview)
So it could be a bit uncomfortable if the human resources manger is a huge fan of it.
I know this comment is a bit long, but this education system was a big enemy.
A funny fact about the German politics. The politicans are always complain that Germany needs more engeniers and computer scientist, but no one really wants to touch this education system.

More important than /what/ is in the CV is that there are no gaps. Having gone from school system C to B to A may actually show ambition and determination. You didn't give up. I wouldn't worry too much about that

Good, I don`have big gaps.
I don`t know if that shows much ambition. (I`ve done it because I`ve been to lazy to work)
Thankies for all this useful informations.

It`s also no shame to be without bachelor degree. (sorry if it sounded a bit like that)
Many people are successful without a bachelor degree.
The most stuff I had to learn for the uni seems to be a bit useless anyhow. (especially Mathematically proofs)

LordPrevious In reply to XeryTheMew [2014-11-21 08:33:45 +0000 UTC]
A lot of the things that you learn are actually useless. Most of it will be forgotten once you're done. However, that's not the only point. A large part of it isn't the knowledge, but the way of thinking you learn. You may not be able to keep every silly definition and way of problem solving in your head. Yet, when you pass the class you've proven that you're smart enough to deal with such problems. A lot of things can simply be looked up, but knowledge alone doesn't solve all issues. It also takes the skills you acquire when dealing with all those useless mathematical proofs and whatnot.

That makes sense.
At last I got mroe useful knowledge and skills then in school.
As long as sleeping with open eyes isn`t a must have for the job X3
(Every German student has to learn this at school)

In Germany are also special schools for this degree. I`ve just not thought about it, but I think the specifications of the bachelor degree are similar.

I`m going to spend 2.5 years for the master. :3
In Germany you`re earning approx 20% more with the master. (I don`t know about your country)
So it`ll worth it for me.
Good luck with your job search.
