Description The Fire : A transformative shape.

Watercolor and watercolor pencils on hot-pressed Arches watercolor paper.

Fire is associated with warmth, light, energy and movement. It has a transformative shape encompassing both life and death. The maiden's metamorphosis into the phoenix will lead her back to the light.

This painting is the last of my Four Elements serie and my entry for the Four Elements contest held by Ellygator [link]

I hope you like this new painting !

I do! Autumn is my favorite time of year, and your picture made me think of bright leaves and bonfires. And it has a wistful, wispy quality about it. Really lovely!

This is a great piece! I love how you incorporated the phoenix into the overall design--very appropriate for the fire element.

As far as critiques go, I would say that you should try pushing the details a bit further on this piece. You have a great start with the little lines in some places, but I feel like the fire could have some more life to it. Also, the lack of a prominent/colored background makes the piece look a bit unfinished. Perhaps a little detail or two could tie the whole thing together?

A very nice painting overall! Keep up the good work

Thank you !! Yes I also feel I could have added more background for this piece but at the time of painting I thought it might cross the transformative/phoenix effect.. so I leave it neutral for the design to pop out..

But I'm definitely trying to add more details and background elements in my recent paintings ! thank you for all your very helpful comments and advices !!

I see what you mean. I have such a hard time with backgrounds--I'm always afraid it'll ruin the piece I've already worked so hard on!

You're welcome

Or sometimes I really know how I wish the character to look like but I've absolutely no idea for the background.. Such a clue sometimes !!!

This is such a wonderful painting. I love the colors, and the way she transforms out of the fire. I also like how her hand changes into a swan. Nice touch.
