Tabbris nodded towards the forest, indicating where they were headed to the smaller gro beside her. "I'm going to try to head towards the lake through the woods, if that makes sense. When I think I'm close enough... poof! Dowsing will get us to the water."

"I don't think that's the sound dowsing makes," Marigold said with a grin, "but okay. You know more about magic than I do, probably!" Her subdued giggles made Tabbris aware of any doubt Marigold might've had, but she ignored it with her own smile and a roll of her eyes.

On the way to the place where Tabbris had in mind to begin dowsing, the two conversed in cheerful tones, discussing their daily lives and sometimes throwing in a comment or two about their friends and what they might be doing where they around. Unfortunately, the others each had their own engagements, and Tabbris, knowing the signs from experience, secretly thought that their quiet gray and purple friend might be growing up soon. She was actually... a little surprised that Fortune wasn't growing yet, but everyone took their own time, she supposed.

Somewhere along the way their chatter devolved into a game of 'I spy,' which Tabbris was particularly adept at, having been able to explore this part of the woods on her own without repercussions from Alma for being out late. For probably being in this area for the first time, Mari wasn't doing half-bad, though. Or she wouldn't be, if she would just stop picking trees to 'spy.'

"It's a clover tree, isn't it?" Tabbris said, one eyebrow arching over her eye.

"Which one?" Mari asked smugly.

"Uh... there's a lot of clover trees, Mari."

"Fine! I'll give you another hint. I spy, with my little eye, something with a nest in its branches."

Tabbris scanned around, her eyes finally landing on a tree with a little blue bird nesting in it, hopping around and adjusting twigs. "That one," she said, pointing at it.

"Yep! But that made it easy," Marigold said with a nod. "That means I win and get to go again!"

"IIII think that it's my turn to spy. You keep picking trees."

Marigold's snout wrinkled as she looked up at Tabbris before puffing out air from her cheeks. "Fiiiine."

"Okay... I spy with my little eye something blue."

"The bird from earlier!" Marigold chirped, pointing behind them.

"Nope," Tabbris hummed. "Strike one."

"Um.... The sky?" Marigold nodded upwards, looking a little less confident, but still pretty sure of herself.

"Nuh-uh. Strike two." Tabbris had a mischievous grin now, clearly enjoying this. Marigold had said Tabbris had lost for the last six rounds on account of "you keep guessing trees but not the right ones!" Now the pink gro was getting a little payback.

Marigold took longer to answer now, knowing this was her last chance. As they passed a clump of flowers, she gasped. "Is it a Sararik flower?"

"Which one?"

The smug look on Tabbris's face made Marigold puff her cheeks out again, before promptly turning back to where they had been when Tabbris's turn started. Tabbris had no choice but to follow, having promised the nursery mother that she would take good care of her charge.

There was indeed another patch of sarariks there, and Marigold searched over them before pointing to the one with the tallest stem, poking out above the rest. "This one! This one here!"

"Eh! Strike three! You're out!" Tabbris was laughing as she pointed downwards. "It was my toes!"

"What?! You let me walk all the way back here and it was your toes?"

"Paaayybaaack," Tabbris hummed, continuing on her way once again. "C'mon, we're almost there. I know the lake is close enough to sense from around here if we press a little further."

Marigold followed with a grumble, though her smile was back as she trailed after Tabbris. It wasn't long before Tabbris began to concentrate, and her magic glands turned a deep blue. "This way," she said, taking a turn down a different path, one that looked more overgrown, long-abandoned, even.

Tabbris seemed not to notice, continuing to walk. The thick foliage overhead parted enough to show that the sun was already starting to dip down. It wasn't that much of a surprise, since they'd had a late start. Marigold took the time to observe the scenery, while Tabbris seemed focused on a point ahead of her that Marigold couldn't see. Every so often Marigold would nudge her out of the way of an oncoming tree so she didn't smack face-first into them.

Finally, the biped turned back to give her a grin, pointing ahead. "I think we're really close! At least, I can kinda sense a big body of water just ahead."

Mari mirrored Tabbris's expression, speeding up to match her new pace as they approached a break in the trees.

Tabbris blinked a few times as she emerged from the shade of the trees, but as her eyes grew accustomed to the bright sundown light in the clearing, her jaw dropped. What... what? What is this?
