Description Previous: what am i going to do with you?

Admittedly, Hadi took it better than Tabbris thought she would. She was surprised at how mature her daughter was, asking questions like, how were they going to take care of her little sibling if they were a finn? Didn't they breathe water?

Tabbris answered as well as she could, but was surprised to find that not once did Hadi seem angry once she learned the egg was here to stay. She was a little uncertain at first, seeming reluctant towards the idea of being a big sister, but she came around to it.

Now all Tabbris had to do was figure out how to take care of both of them.

She used what was left of the surrogate money to buy the supplies to build an extension on her house, bringing it further towards the lake. She ended up employing the help of some friends to get it done, mostly on borrowed favors for lack of money, but when it was finished it was quite the little finn nook if she said so herself. It fit what she envisioned pretty well; a dug-out pond filled up most of the room, with a closed-off tunnel leading to the lake for when the baby got bigger, though for now it was locked securely. Tabbris had insisted on some plant life being added, which she'd done mostly herself, but she wanted it to be a fun play pen and not a barren prison. The rest of the room was just a normal kid's room, with a wooden floor and a bed in the corner and a toybox ready for the little wyngling.

When it was finally finished, Tabbris was relieved; the due date for the egg to hatch had been drawing closer and closer. She still hadn't even asked Hadi if she wanted to live with them yet, though she had been bringing her along to watch some of the less dangerous construction.

Before Tabbris could ask, the day came that the egg began to hatch. Hadi was spending the night when it happened, and Tabbris immediately transferred the egg from her pouch into the pool of water in the finn's room. She watched the shallow water anxiously, keeping her eye on the glow as the baby pushed against its shell. Little by little it emerged, poking its little blue head out first, followed by the rest of its body.

Tabbris slid down into the pond beside the finn as it laid at the bottom, eyes closed as it gathered energy. Hatching was a tasking process after all. Tears pricked Tabbris's eyes as she picked up the baby, holding her gingerly out of the water so Hadi could see. A protective layer of water was cast around the wyngling's head as she lifted her. Tabbris knew enough about finns that she was aware they needed to breathe water, at least in the first few days.

"This is your baby sibling, Nyssa," Tabbris cooed softly, smiling at Hadi as she leaned over her mother's shoulder to get a better look. Tabbris had picked the name a while back - Nyssa for a girl, and Calder for a boy.

At being removed from the water, Nyssa immediately began to get upset, opening her mouth and letting loose an upset cry in her little bubble. "Hush," Hadi said, patting Nyssa's front paw gently. "We aren't gonna hurt you, silly."

Nyssa blinked up at her sister, revealing big teal eyes, the teal surrounded by a ring of black. Her mouth slowly closed, then she let loose something Tabbris could only assume was a giggle, grabbing at Hadi's claw. Tabbris's smile widened, but she pried Hadi's claw away from Nyssa and tucked the wyngling into her pouch to eat. She sank down in the water a little further so she could drop her magic use, then looked up at Hadi. Now was as good a time as any.

"Hadi, do you want to come live with us? Permanently, or at least until you grow up and move out?"

To her surprise, Hadraniel hesitated. "... Maybe," she said finally, glancing away. "I have to think about it, and I have questions, like, would I still get to go to the Nook every day and see my friends?"

Tabbris honestly wasn't all that surprised. It was reasonable that Hadi had doubts. "It's okay if you don't want to decide right away. Of course you'd still be able to go to the Nook whenever you wanted, and you'd have to go for class anyhow. I don't want to make you isolate yourself from anyone by asking you to live with me."

Hadi looked relieved, nodding as she laid down at the edge of the wooden part of the floor, dipping her claws into the water below. "I have more questions."

"I'll try to have more answers."

When Hadi's eyes met Tabbris's, she saw emotion there like she'd never seen on Hadraniel's face before. Perhaps she'd just gotten better at reading her oldest daughter. There was uncertainty and hesitation, anger and sadness - fear. She looked so afraid, and vulnerable. Tabbris wished she could do something to wipe all of those fears away, but she knew she was the one that caused them, and they would not leave Hadi so easily. She took a deep breath, about to make a promise she might not be able to keep.

"If you come to live with me, Hadi, I promise you this: I will never, ever leave you again."
