Hadi stared down at the paper, the tiny stack of cards with a pink gurp pattern printed all over them. What gro wanted to profess their love with those little screaming monstrosities? It was an awful idea.

She loved the idea of sending gros heartkindles with the horrible little pink pieces of paper.

Her only real friend was Salad, so she sent him the best gift ever. Candy-coated bugs should have been way more popular this time of year, in her opinion. She munched on the ones that she had snagged for herself before sending Salad his heartkindle.

Actually, it was the second-best gift. She knew he liked her teeth, so she was gonna pull some out and send them to him. But Alma had caught her trying to tie a tooth to a doorknob and said NO. She seemed to keep an extra-close eye on Hadi after that, so Hadi just settled for doodling a tooth on her heartkindles.

As she began to write to one of Salad's friends on the next letter, deciding to anonymously compliment them in the most vague and mysterious way she could think of, she decided she would keep signing her letters with a tooth. It was WAY better than a boring old H. And there was no WAY anybody would figure it out.

It was the perfect heartkindle plan, she decided as she got back to writing more little notes.
