Description
Our challenge this week was to design any outfit we wanted, so long as we stuck to varying shades of the same color (with black and white as accent colors). I liked the model much better this week, despite her... um... hand deformities. Equal opportunity models on this show, kidsD E S I G N I D E A S
For this challenge I knew a lot of the others were probably going to go into gradients. This was also a challenge where people were going to fall into sheers to get more variety of texture. I am not very good with sheers. When I try, it ends up looking very "Sailor Moon on Ice" and never really pans out. And my first challenge used gradients, so I didn't want to fall into the complacency trap.
Instead of worrying about the colors right off, I sketched out my outfit and blocked out the colors using different shades of gray to make sure I covered enough range to keep it visually interesting. Since I'd done dresses in my past two challenges, I thought I'd stretch into a pant ensemble this time.
When it came to colors, I initially thought I'd go cool, with a green or blue-grey scheme. I eventually went with oranges, because you could go from deep chocolate brown to bright orange, and keep it interesting and rich feeling.

I wanted to work in three pieces, because I feel that women, when they purchase a set, often choose three solid pieces that they can mix and match into their current wardrobe as well as wear together.
I started with a crop jacket in soft suede (med. brown) with black leather accents and a buttery soft light matte leather bodice (orange). The bell puff sleeves give it some femininity, and bring in some proportion to balance the wide leg of the pant. The swirls on the back set the tone for the rest of the outfit.
The corset top is a harder, slightly distressed chocolate brown, laced haphazardly up the back to keep everything from looking too symmetrical "matchy"(There is a hidden zipper behind the wide laces in a privacy panel to keep the fit tight and even). The V-shaped insert is hand-carved in a swirl pattern, then dyed a deep orange.
The pant is a nice, comfortable mid-low-rise, wide leg pant with a little stretch to help the fit at the hips and rear and a front leg crease. Pockets are edged in a darker brown contrast suede to match the swirl embroidery detail at the hem.
Paired here with a nice ankle boot.

Critique is encouraged, cause it's fun. But remember, we don't get to draw the models themselves, so keep the comments on the clothing.

I didn't even notice the hand deformities until you mentioned them XD
I love the outfit though, great color choice too.

I don't dig the jacket much (not my thing, puff sleeves), but the rest of it? I'd buy it if it were real. DD~ I LOVE that tank top

I wish I was participating ;_; I really like that you used orange, I agree with you on the richness, it's part flamboyant and slight conservative. The overall shape is nice, especially if it were for a tall person looking to accentuate their frame. The silhouette is very nice. The only problem I have is the jacket, it looks very tailored to just this outfit, I like it don't get me wrong but the it's the least versatile. Overall I think you did a great job!

I think the jacket is more versatile than you give it credit for. I think it would be cute over a black cami with some dark denim skinny jeans or crop pants and a nice orange heel/flat. It's more statement-y than, say, the pants. But it's still mixable.

When I look at it again, I think it might just be the swirls on the back. I missed the part with the materials and you have the same thing in mind as I as far as the leather being involved which now I like much better.
I suppose now my only input would be that I think the swirls would be fine on just the tank and pants but on the jacket is what gets me. Because of the unique shape I think looks better without it.

Ah, I'd definitely wear something like this *_*. I adore the colour orange, and that jacket is awesome~<3. The hair clips are a cute touch too. Too bad the hands are off, but, you didn't draw them, so I shouldn't mention it too much |D;.

I would love to wear this outfit. It is AMAZING! If I had the right body, and the money, I would LOVE to have this commissioned as actual clothing. Its wonderful!
