this makes me so sad... I even got tears in my eyes and I feel ashamed that my only worries are if I get a new computer. They have to fight for their survival and we put our fat asses in front of the TV, and watch pictures like this and think "these poor guys, I should give a donation" but then we are way too lazy to do that and forget about it. I definately will give a donation to "Brot fΓΌr die Welt" (bread for the world) a german organisation via online banking (IΒ΄m still too lazy to stand up, but this will help the people in these poor countries).

Many people die every day, the Earths ozone is being depleted by pollution we put into the air, oil spills and deforestation kill thousands of animals, large numbers of people are homeless in the United States, people are murdered, people are raped, people kill animals, people have no food, people have no families, people have no one. These things are all happening every day and I dont deny them, but I dont make my own life drag to feel sorry for them. I have enough problems of my own. This piece has a well placed, yet all too well-known message for me. You want to see pure depression melancholic sadness on a daily basis? You dont have to go to another country. Just watch the news

This piece speaks...and brings me back to my trip to Brazil, the children scratching at the door of the car begging for food...holding babies up to the window begging for us to take one....its hard on the eyes of a 14 year old (now 16)...I cried many a night thinking of those children and how their birth givers had dropped them on the side of the road like trash to join the others who sat on the side of the street in boxes.

How I wish I could have helped at least one of those children....This art work has reminded me of all the blessings I have and how my life is not bad at all...I think sometimes of how I wish I was different and that my life is pure feces.

But this...this shows me that life for others is far worse...and I should quit being so slefish with my blessings...thank you, your piece has made my day.

Sad, but true...
Reality for us might be a 'walk among the clouds'.
But it's a 'walk among the thorns' for others. You did
a great job on this.

Great emotional photography. Just reminding you people, donate your money to charity, not to war bonds. There are still things to care about in this world, and when I talk to or see the people who live in this sad state of despair, reality hits me in the face. I wonder why people are poor now when they were prosperous before civilization reached them. There's one problem here: money. Try to at least have some humility.

"'The Children of Reality'

I think whatever the picture is REALITY.

have you seen that cute children in other pictures? also that's reality!! you know there's children like that cute United Colours of Benetton or like that FisherPrice children!

Why to name it The REALITY.. ??????"
Because people only want to see happy, smiling, clean, nice, lovely people in the world. No American [or any other rich country, really, just targeting good old America] wants to face up to the fact that while they are sitting at home bitching about their peanut butter being chunky when they wanted to buy smooth there are people out there in the world that might kill just for a TASTE of the peanut butter. Yes, smiling, happy cute children are reality as well, but the reality captured in this picture is a harsher reality. Because, reality is, even the homeless bums in the New York City subway station have it better off than some people in poorer parts of the world do.
Anyway, my awful rant over, very lovely photograph. Doesn't really pull my heartstrings [but I'm cold-hearted anyway X D] but it does.. I don't know. Touch, I suppose. Hard to explain. ::cough::

ori [2003-04-27 05:27:30 +0000 UTC]

The strength in the face of the girl says that she can, and will, continue to live one. The child in her arms is her reason. The two in the photo are bonded and this beautiful relationship gives me hope. Through all that the girl has suffered, though the baby may die and she with it, she will not sit at the feet of the oppressors and whine.
This kind of love and beatuy that makes aggression and strength is all to rare in the world anymore-the loyalty has faded out and been replaced with brainwashing. This photo is not only striking and uplifting but eye opening. Thank you.

one wish:

to take away her anguish and despair that you so perfectly captured on film....

it makes me sad that there are those who have nothing... and feel that they have no chance in life.

the saddest thing is that if aid is sent, it is snapped up by the corrupt and utilized for their own gain, most humanitarian aid does not make it to those who need it the most. makes one really sad....

Indeed. We all see it, but until you know the people who live in it, or live in it yourself - you'll have no idea what it means. We've had financial troubles (serious) but seeing stuff like this makes me realize how lucky I am. I guess I'd like to thank you for reminding me of how blessed I am. Also, thanks for reminding me to pray for those who are not. Have a great day sir, and keep up the incredible work! +fav
