For the "Bats" contest being held by

This piece is based on Countess Bathroy, the story is fictitious.

After she was imprisoned in the tower, the blood thirsty countess found herself starving, with no way to feed or escape before she perished. The only other living creatures in the tower were a family of bats, that would leave every night to feed and torture her with the smell of fresh blood on their breath.....until one night. After days of captivity and on the verge of madness and despair, she managed to catch one of the bats, and draining it's blood she infected it with her own, casting her spell upon it. That same spell she passed on to the other bats, until they were all bound to her will. Then she sent them out, one by one, to feed and kill, and bring the nourishment she needed back to her. They would fill themselves with the blood of the living and then offer it to their mistress, keeping her alive and immortal until she could escape and find a new home, in a new land.

Because of this, bats became the vampire's minion and became known and feared as the predators themselves.
