Description
I recolored an old sketch I did of Daredevil a while back. Hope you like the new hues!I have fond memories of reading DAREDEVIL: THE MAN WITHOUT FEAR in the early '80s, back when Frank Miller was writing/pencilling the book with Klaus Janson inking it. Those were some great comics! I remember that Frank's sequentials were very cinematic (for lack of a better term), and there was a real rhythm to the panel pacing that I enjoyed a lot. If you've never seen those issues of DD, seek them out or try to find them in a collection. Worth a read!

Really great job on this one.
I would like to know that what is the method behind that slight texture effect in the shading.
I have been searching a lot on the internet but I couldn't come to know what it is exactly called. Please could you help me with it. Thanks a lot

This is great - it actually reminds me more of when Gene Colan did DD (as opposed to Miller). Those were some of my first comics ever.

I really dig this - the colors look simple at first but there's more depth the more you look. Thanks for posting this.

When I was learning to draw, I would copy how Frank Miller would draw fight scenes. He could do so much, and I followed him through most of his other titles. I really like what you did here.

Holy cow, not only does it look like there is no escape from his "eyes", as he KNOWS where you are exactly, but it also looks like he's really coming to getchya! It actually looks like he's coming in for the kill! DareDevil DUDE, the only guy who's a martial art match for the Batman. Only ONE of them is the greatest fighter in the world. Nicely done man, that's how you draw frikin Daredevil

This reminded me of Miller's run on DD, then I read your description and laughed. Great piece.

Most of his stuff was, with the notable exception of his take on Robin's origin... which I will not mention by title.... [ gag ]

Cool, Simone!
That western flashback story Mazzuccelli drew using duo-shade was quite amazing!

Another fave of mine from your list of masterpiece. You captured the Miller Janson spirit with this pic...the style used really get back their arch to my mind. I also loved when Mazzuchelli (and Delano) run DD serie until the fmous Born Again arch...but also the Delano issue drew by David was really really good stuff

My guess is that DD is listen to either Iron Maiden: Number of the Beast or Metallica: Master of Puppets. Possibly AC/DC: Back in Black.

Fine work, but the funny thing about this one to me is that as soon as I saw it, I thought of Gene Colan's version of DD. The shadows made me think of him. Well done!

I wasn't really trying to draw DD like Miller, I just liked that era of the book. I also like Gene's DD too. He also did a nice Iron Man, but I really loved Gene's work on TOMB OF DRACULA!

Tomb is my fave of Gene's too. Those moody shadows were perfect for that book.

You notice how they dont use the sonar effect in DD anymore? I thought it was cool. THat and his sonar vision.
Anyhoo, nice job Loston!

Remember Spider-Man's belt bullseye spider signal that ol Webhead once used to use to cast a big red Spidey-face onto crooks? They ever use that anymore? Ditko came up with that back in the day, and they were still using it in the '80s Spidey books. I suppose that's something that is passe now?

you are 100% correct about the Miller/Janson stuff. it was truly amazing work, and it holds up even by today's standards. Your version of DD is wonderful as well, he looks fit, and ready to kick some ass.

Thanks, Rugen. I like the idea that DD is in gymnast shape--sleek, muscular and ripped, but not incredibly bulky. I figure if you're going to be back flipping off of a building and grabbing onto flag poles, and fighting ninjas on a daily basis, you'd probably won't to stay lean and mean. Heh.

For sure! I see him as a little bigger than spiderman, because he's still human, so he doesn't have crazy spider strength to rely on, but much smaller than most other superheros. Again, I really dig your work!
