This is artwork from one of the KRYPTO THE SUPER DOG books I did for DC-- KRYPTO: THE DOG STARS. I pencilledthe book and Dave Cooper inked it.

Notice that the tree doesn't continue all the way up into the background. This was intentional on my part as children were encouraged to draw "rewards" for each of the Super Pets just above each of the character's heads. I wonder how many kids drew a fish over Streaky the Super Cat's head? Heh.

KRYPTO was a cartoon aimed at the pre-schooler age bracket. It was cute, but not too cute, and I actually found myself enjoying episodes of the show on Cartoon Network. I probably wouldn't have watched it on my own, but I had to familiarize myself with the tv show for the benefit of the projects I was drawing. Maybe this cartoon wasn't for everyone, but I'm always amazed to hear how many older comic fans enjoyed the show. Female fans in particular, seem to have embraced it. My niece loved the tv show, and was so very excited to hear that her Uncle Loston was drawing Krypto books! To her, this elevated me to hero status in a heartbeat, and made me feel proud to be a part of it all. KRYPTO THE SUPER DOG is just a fun show for kids that found ways to be heroic without resorting to violence or "one to grow on" messages. It was nice to see a kids cartoon (for a change) with only one agenda: FUN.
