Here is the cover I have prepared for IDW's MARS ATTACKS: FIRST BORN, a new 4-issue limited series by CHRIS RYALL and SAM KIETH(THE MAXX)! My comic cover is a loving homage to Wally Wood's WEIRD SCIENCE #16 cover. When Topps decided to create the infamous MARS ATTACKS card set back in 1962, Wally Wood was hired to create the look of the Martians, after Topps saw Wood's WEIRD SCIENCE #16 cover. Wood went on to create the now familiar look of the Martians, and the result was one of the wildest and most notorious trading card sets ever made. Knowing this bit of MARS ATTACKS lore, I set out to bring things full circle, providing this tribute cover that still relates to the comic story by Ryall and Keith!

The cover was drawn onto 2-ply strathmore 500 semi-smooth bristol board with Pitt Artist Pens and brush pens. Normally I ink with Speedball and a Raphael brush, but not this time. Hope you dig the cover, and be sure to ask your local comic shop to order a copy of MARS ATTACKS FIRST BORN #1 with the LOSTON WALLACE/STEVE DOWNER cover if you want to find it. Many shops will only be ordering the Sam Kieth cover, so if you don't pre-order, you aren't going to find my cover. Act now!!
