Description
The battle started when I was asleep. When I woke up I heard the mix of noises and knew what was happening immediately. Crap, Sarah, my best friend, was still here, and she's human. Well technically I'm human, too. At least I have training to fight with my wand, I have no actual magic like my Aunt, but I can defend myself. First I go to grab the delicately carved piece of wood, and then I leave my room. I should probably go find Sarah. She was in the long purple hallway right outside my room shaking. When she heard my footsteps she jumped and turned around.
"Violet," she gasped relieved. "I woke up hearing the noises and-" Her voice was cut off by someone in the back ground. There was a man with shaggy blonde hair and a beard. He had blue eyes and a rough voice.
"We heard that you were close to Damien. We need to know where he is. He has committed a heinous crime against us." The man spoke staring at us. I recognized his eyes immediately. He was one of the members from the gang. At least we thought it was a gang, it was really a pack of werewolves, and when we tried to stop them from killing people, they fought back and ended up biting our friend Chance. Luckily he survived, but he's not the same, although he denies it.
Damien must've gotten revenge, we all told him not too, said it was wrong. He must've gone against what we said and killed one or more. I cursed under my breath, truthfully I wanted to get back at them too but I knew something would happen.
"He's not here, get out and leave us alone. I don't want a fight right now so call everyone off" I said defiantly. I didn't want to reveal anything to Sarah, because she was the only one in our little group that didn't know about all of this mystical stuff. Maybe that's why she was always the happiest, and the brightest.
"Oh we're not the ones fighting. The fighting is not of our accord. Oh, I'm sure you won't mind it if we stay here and make sure you're not lying, but if you are" the man said in a threatening tone, licking his lips, "we'll make sure you never lie again." With that he walked down the hallway, leaving me and Sarah stunned.
"Straw," I said to Sarah. Straw was my nickname for her because I always thought she was like a strawberry because of her hair and she was really sweet. "You should probably leave now."
"N-no," she stumbled. I could tell she was terrified, and confused. "I wanna find out what's going on. What did Damien do? And what's with the fighting."
"Look, I can really explain. At least go to the safe room, I'll explain when everything's cleared up," I promised. The safe room was a room in our giant house with a bunch of spells on it so no one could hurt us if something went wrong. Humans aren't supposed to know about all this. There was a chance the wizard government might come and try to destroy us because my aunt and grandpa broke this law by telling us. Maybe that had happened now, I hope not.
Sarah nodded and started walking quickly, holding me close. We got there pretty quickly and tapped my wand on the door handle on the giant doors. It opened just enough for us to slip through. Once inside I saw my mom crying by the wall. She looked pretty much like me except with a hollow face and more wrinkles. Her hair was black and curly with dusty brown eyes, mine were lighter, more like a dark honey.
"Oh thank goodness you guys are here" she exclaimed and ran to hug us. I pushed her away and stared back up at her, I was also far shorter than her.
"I'm going to go see what's going on." I stated, trying to sound confident.
"Oh no you are not, you can let them fight their own battles they'll be fine. If you go out there you could…" she stopped short, her voice cracking. She always worried too much, I always told her I could take care of myself. I mean I survived these last sixteen years, and for most of them I was in danger.
"But mom, it's not just them. Of course I need to make sure they're okay but a few people are angry at Damien, I need to make sure he's okay." This wasn't really a good excuse, my mom hated Damien. She hated him because Damien was a vampire. Of course he wasn't human, it's nearly impossible for a human to kill a werewolf, for a vampire it's not as difficult.

I met Damien when I was fourteen. It was after I went to watch a movie with my friends, and I was walking home. Of course it was stupid of me to walk in the darkness all alone in a bad area of town, but I thought the worst that could happen would be gangs or something. My Aunt and Grandpa hadn't come to live with us yet, I didn't know about the other part of our world. That was when I was grabbed by somebody. He didn't seem much older than me, but he was frightening with his bright red eyes. Of course I screamed but his stare cut me off short. I didn't like it at all, when he started leaning my head back, for some reason it seemed all too familiar, maybe because I've seen it in all the movies, and read it in books. He must've realized I was scared because he made a calming shhh noise. Wrapped up in fear I started muttering softly against his stare.
"Please don't hurt me. I don't want it. Don't hurt me please. I don't want to get hurt."
His fangs were already near my neck and I braced for the worst. Then he leaned back and grabbed me up towards his chest. I was stunned and I sat there listening to his breathing. Then he whispered very softly, his voice calming. "Don't worry I won't hurt you, or let anyone else hurt you."
After that he joined our group of friends. It was awkward at first, but he ended up being pretty cool. Of course his eyes aren't red all the time, they're usually grey. His hair is also black and kind of long, and he's really tall.

"I don't care what's going on you are not putting yourself in danger again!" she screamed at me. It's funny how she's been telling me this for a while. Ever since I told her about Damien and I needed to go do him a favor. My mom was really angry then, but at least we found my Aunt Marie and my Grandpa on that journey.
I walked right past my mom and out the door into the corridor. No one was out there, unlike what I expected. Maybe it was kind of stupid to expect armies, it was only two people they wanted anyway. After walking farther along I feel a hand grab me, then I jump and turn around. My Aunt is there, she looks a bit messed up, with her black hair messy and a few bruises. Other than that her bright blue eyes were filled with worry. Blue eyes were part of the magic, they were a special blue, a blue only witches and wizards had.
"Have you seen your grandfather? I just fought off another witch, and we got separated. You should probably go back to the safe room for safety. I'm sure you were going there right now just be on your toes okay." Then she ran off ahead of me. She usually rambles off like that, but she was talking faster than usual. I sighed and started walking towards the stairs.

"I'm being serious Damien will you just-" Caden started talking. The boy looked frustrated and his hands were clenched. He was standing on a fountain that was shining from the moonlight. It was pretty much the only source of light that night. Sitting on a bench near the fountain was Damien. His expression was kind of bored, and then switched to worried.
"I think something's wrong…" he said before he stood up.
"Just listen to me for two seconds man" Caden half-yelled again, before he ran after Damien. If only one of them had noticed the man lurking in the shadows.

Before I got up the stairs I heard something in the back ground. It sounded like half a scream so I ran towards the room it was coming up. The door was open so I looked inside. There was a wolf in there, one I didn't recognize, but Sarah was in there too. She was pale white and frightened beyond belief.
"You lied," said the werewolf in a terrifying rumbling voice. "He is here, you will pay." Before I could react it grabbed my friend and sliced her hand off with a sword, I guessed they didn't want to change her. There was a horrible thump as it hit the ground, then an earsplitting scream. I quickly hit the monster with a spell I never heard, but it disappeared so I'm glad it worked. After that I ran towards her and grabbed her. Her eyes were horribly wide and her hand was just a stump. Almost as quick as I grabbed her, she passed out. My mom then ran in and took her away from me. She tied something around her wrist then turned to me.
"It's to stop the bleeding. It'll have to be amputated" She said solemnly. She was a nurse in fact, but I didn't like her diagnosis. It brought tears to my eyes, and I was filled with fear.
"Oh my-"I muttered. She didn't deserve this, she was innocent. Human or not I was not going to let this happen without something in return. How was Damien even here? I bet they were lying.
There were no other werewolves, which was shocking. I ran up the stairs as quick as I could and ran into an open door. Inside there was a strange man who was maybe twenty. He had red and black hair and his eyes were also glowing red. The other person in the room was my friend Caden.
We have been best friends for as long as I can remember, literally. I told him everything, and he did the same in return. In fact, right after the incident with Damien, he was the first I told. At the time I thought I was insane, but he believed every word I said. He was also hilarious. When he was eleven he wanted to die his blonde hair black, but when his parents said no, he decided to die his hair white. It's been that way ever since. Actually, he liked it white better, it contrasted with his black clothes.
The strange man lunged at Caden, grabbing his neck with his hands and squished it. Caden screamed as many cuss words as he could, trying to fight him off. I ran towards them, planning to save Caden. Once I was close, the man turned to look at me, then smiled, and then disappeared into a bunch of different pieces. Caden dropped to the ground with a thump.
"Caden!" I screamed. There was no way another one of my friends was going to get hurt tonight. As I got closer something seemed off. "Caden?" I whispered, my voice shaking. A smirk then appeared on his face. The same smirk on the man's face. I stumble back a bit, and when Caden opens his eyes, they aren't the green I know so well, but brown. My breath nearly stops and I stumble back tripping out the door then start running.
When I'm running I hear a noise in a room a few doors away from my room. It sounded like fighting but with swords. I went to open the door but it was locked. It was simple to unlock though but I wished I never did. Inside I saw my Aunt and Grandpa fighting, with swords.
"What the heck is going on" I screamed, I definitely thought I was insane, maybe dreaming. They both looked up still heated in battle.
"It's a spell," my aunt started explaining between breaths. "It's to make us fight to the death."
"No…" no, no, no, no, no this can't be true. "There has to be some way to reverse it!"
"No there isn't. You're only human and there isn't a sorcerer here strong enough to do so. You're just going to have to stand back on this" my grandpa said sincerely, pain in his eyes. I still ran towards them hoping to be able to do something. First I grabbed their hands and pulled them apart but it didn't work for long. Then I let go of my aunt's hand for a second.
"Maybe if you just cut each other…" I started but there was a little cut and they didn't stop so I pulled her hand back. With her strength though she pushed me off and plunged her sword into my grandpa's leg. Shocked I screamed and ran out of the room, ignoring all the blood that gushed out. This is too unreal it can't be happening. Everything is crashing down, breaking. Slowly I walk into my room and swear I see someone. I grip my wand, but no one appears. Gulping, I walk onto my bed and lay there, thinking. Eventually I get up again to walk back downstairs and check on Sarah.
Tears were still streaming down my eyes when I saw the room they were fighting in. What used to be my grandpa was lying on the floor, with so much blood and he was practically in pieces. I should have cried, collapsed, something, but I just felt so… numb. Trying to get the image out of my mind, I blinked and continued walking.
Once downstairs, Sarah ran up to me, but not before I saw the stump that was her hand. It was sickening.
"I'm so glad you're okay. All I remember is going to look for you and then I don't know. My hands gone, it's so weird but it's okay. Don't blame yourself I know it's not your fault… I just don't know what's going on." She said half crying. She knew me better than I thought. It's still odd how she was more worried about me than herself. I'm pretty much the only one out of this who didn't get injured. Maybe that's just my strawberry for you.
I didn't answer her questions, just hugged her back and went to the safe room. Honestly, I didn't feel like doing anything, so I just sat on the floor. Sarah sat next to me and I stared at her stump. It made me think of something Damien said back when I was asking questions daily about vampires. Apparently when changed, if there's anything wrong with you it fixes it. All your scars are healed, or if you're missing a finger, it grows back. But if you have an extra toe or something, you're stuck with it. Her hand would grow back with just a bite, just a venomous kiss. It was a weird thought in the madness. There was no way I was going to do that to her, even I never wanted to be a vampire.
Snapping me out of my thoughts, my mom walked in. She looked strange though, and her voice sounded weird. I remember one other time she looked like this, a long time ago. There was a prophecy, and she had them when a bit of her magical blood made the prophecies.
"There was a choice of blood and wood, only blood and wood. Now the wood is gone and there is only blood. If only you chose wood. If only you choose wood" she said, her voice echoing. This was confusing, more so than the last one, but this one didn't sound very promising. After that she snapped back into reality and asked us if we were hungry. I wish with every part of my being that I could snap back into reality too, but unfortunately, this was my reality.
