After a couple of absent months, finally, a painting!  Hope you like it!

I wanted to finish this picture before my great announcement (so preferably before January) but anyway, here this is! A long-planned family picture of my main Dragonborn. (The reason why I wanted to draw it? See it in a journal soon!)

So... I sketched the whole thing in last August. Then I drew the line-art and initial colours between October 20th-28th. I also uploaded a WIP . Then came a long intermezzo.
In this March I corrected the colours, made the grey-scale shading, then I painted some textures, lights and the lazy background.
DegraZul helped me to choose the colours. I used six main layers and some helper layers.

Tools: Wacom Intuos Pen TabletScanner
Softwares: Gimp 2.8, MS Paint

I picked the skin colours from the Skin-tone Palette by Mariondf .

Heya!
This is a very cute and loving family portrait. I love the outfits, it's very clear that this is from Skyrim.
The composition of this piece is very good, it's focusing on the family and I got nothing but praise for this composition. It's a balanced piece.
The perspective is a bit off when it comes to the bench and how they sit, it just about doesn't fit together. The bench should've been "rotated" a little backwards.
I really enjoy the base colours you've chosen, they're strong but not so saturated they ruin the piece and look unrealistic. Also very good use of texture! Very nice.
I would advise you to experiment with different colours to your lineart, instead of black. It can make a piece feel more alive and exciting. I also see you're experimenting with softcell shade, and while it's not perfect I think that it's a learning process you can't master in one day. I can see you have the basic idea, so just keep on practicing!
And (almost) last but not least - facial expression. The two in the middle are looking quite lovingly at eachother, and that's good. The two on each side however, are having almost the same facial expression! If they hadn't had such different facial features, it would've been almost identical, with the same headtilt and everything. People look different when they're happy, and the way someone pose for the camera says a lot about someones personality. It would've made for a more realistic family portrait if more of their personalities had emerged in their smile.
I like the broche your Dovahkiin is wearing, it's very detailed and I love that!

All in all, I love the concept, the universe, and I think you did a good job on this piece. Practice a bit more on your shading with references, and I can't wait to check up on you to see your progress

Heya!
Thank you for taking the time to give this in depth critique!
I see what you mean by the bench, I felt its off but I was clueless how to fix it, so I left it instead.
About the lineart. You know, I always struggle with what I want. Sometimes I want clean and thin lineart with flat colours/hard cell shading, other times I want soft shading and realism but it seems I couldn't achieve either.
The duplicated facial structure and expression is the derivation of the fact that in Skyrim all children, both girls and boys have the exact same face. I think I just couldn't abstract from it. But again, there was something underneath what bothered me: their emotionless faces.

Thanks for your encouraging words, I'll be on it!

You are more than welcome, and I'm glad you're taking it to heart! it's also important to come to terms that a drawing will have flaws, and that is okay. just keep on drawing ^^

Congrats! Too bad you didn't get that done in time, that would have been a very creative way to announce it!

I see what you mean about the clothes now.. but they all look great, I always like the style of them mage outfits, but Sora doesn't wear them of course being what she is and all.
I love how the things happening in your life have come in to theirs!
Nice work on all the poses and what a cute little arctic fox too!
The background isn't lazy, it's perfect for this drawing and the colours add to the whole nice warm calm feeling too.
Awesome work!

Thank you so much!
After all, I decided to take it easy. I didn't wanted to spend a fortnight with colouring again. It took a lot of time only because my son. He requires and deserves my full attention when he's awake.
And how many details were left out. The edge of Balimund's coat. More details of the mage robe.
It looks I'm getting better at this colour picking business... ^^
