Norse mythology was the first to use dwarves, but Tolkien made them popular, as did D&D and WarCraft.

Well that explains it I think J R R Tolkien based a lot of his stories for The Hobbit and LOTR on Norse myths. ^^

Norse mythology didn't only inspire Tolkien; it also inspired Marvel Comics and Rick Riordan, who wrote the Magnus Chase series. So far, that series has only one book, but the next one comes out this October. It's going to be a trilogy.

Thor in mythology is a redhead, but in the Marvel saga he is a blonde. In the Magnus Chase series, he is unrefined and gross, like a biker gang member who never had a bath.
