Reading your story made my heart melt.  I could really hear Kovu and Kiara's voices shining through their dialogue.  Well done!

"It took quite a long time before Kiara was allowed to have any free time to herself after the first time she met Kovu. Her father had her uncles Timon & Pumba as mandatory babysitters, that if she tried to ditch they would immediately seek out her father and all the lionesses would be looking for her within minutes. It was exhausting for everyone and she was punished to be forced to stay in the den for 5 days. After that, she didn’t try to ditch her uncles for a long time.

Eventually Nala and her grandmother Sarabi pitied her enough to convince Simba that she had learned her lesson to stay within the marked trails. Kiara knew that her Dad would still be sending her babysitters to spy on her, and to make sure she was following the rules. So she made herself the most uninteresting subject to spy on for a full week.

Thankfully, uncle Timon & Pumba grew bored of watching her pounce on bugs that they couldn’t eat and soon stopped spying on her. She made sure to greet her parents in the morning before heading out and then she would patrol along her marked border. It seemed everyone became disinterested in her whereabouts after it seemed she was convinced to follow the rules. That was when she would start leaving the trail a bit farther towards the Outlands just a bit everyday. Eventually, she managed to find a nice pond with high tall grass that allowed her to hide. It was far enough from the marked trail that she might get into a bit of trouble if she was found there, but it was close enough to feign that it was an honest mistake on her part. It was tiresome to have to mind herself, but she really wanted to see if she could come across Kovu again. She was constantly peering out of the tall grass towards the Outlands in the hopes of catching a glimpse of brown fur sneaking into the pridelands. Thankfully, she wouldn’t have to wait too long at that point to meet Kovu again. _____________________________

Kovu on his part was forced into a LOT of training after that incident with Simba & Kiara. Usually he was too tired or sore to even think about wanting to leave the termite den to go out and seek out Kiara. Thankfully, Zira decided that it was time Kovu learned to practise on his stealth capabilities. Zira was very emphatic that Kovu would need to sneak up on Simba in order to kill him. So she started his lessons to sneak over the border into the pridelands to bring back a rabbit or other slightly larger rodent to prove he went in and out into the pridelands successfully.

Unfortunately, Nuka was his designated babysitter at first. He was much too loud when Kovu would try to stalk prey and it was only because of Nuka’s frustration at being forced into this that Nuka would just catch the closet prey animal and present it to their mom in the hopes of proving himself to her over Kovu. Eventually, Vitani took pity on her brother, and convinced their mom that Kovu needed to go out on his own to get the prey. As Nuka could be acting as a crutch to Kovu after it became obvious that Nuka was acting in his own self interest.

Finally, Kovu was free to look for Kiara after catching a rabbit and hiding it near the border for him to bring back for his mom. He was very careful to remain near cover at all times. He was almost found and caught by Simba himself if it wasn’t for a meerkat & warthog frantically calling out to Simba that they lost sight of Kiara. Kovu managed to find a trail of tall grass, logs, rocks, and bushes that allowed him to get pretty far into the pridelands while maintaining a source of cover. He eventually came across a pond surrounded by tall grass. It was a nice spot for a cool drink and it allowed him to take a small nap in the tall grass without fear of being found. It was during one of his naps that he heard a voice he had been hoping to hear ever since he last heard it.

“Kiara,” Kovu sighed out loud. He quickly tried to find the source of the voice to find her pouncing on some frogs around the pond. He then spoke a bit louder in the hopes of catching her attention.

“Kiara!” Peach-coloured ears immediately swerved in his direction, and red eyes quickly met his green ones.

“Kovu!” They immediately rushed to greet other and the next thing Kovu knew is that he was being tackled to the ground by Kiara in a firm hug.

“I was really hoping I would find you out here! You have no idea how long it took me to be able to get this close to the Outlands without getting caught or into trouble!” Kiara got off of Kovu and laid down next to Kovu’s sprawled form.

“I think I have an idea,” laughed Kovu as he righted himself up, “your Dad almost caught me coming over here, but he was called away to ‘help find you.’”

“Ugg! That was such a bad time! Dad had the whole pride looking for me and I was grounded to stay in the den for a week! I had to be boring and good for sooo long to be left alone again after that!” Kiara whined and flicked her tail in annoyance at remembering the instance.

“How about you? Did your mom punish you like my Dad did to me?” “Oh, uh.” Ears flicked back at the memory of his mother praising him for being clever enough to be trying to ‘trick’ Kiara into letting him into her pride. “Well, my mother had me run a lot of training drills to the point that I would collapsed at the end of the day.”

“Training drills?” Confusion was written all over Kiara’s face.

“Us Outlanders need to be extra skilled in order to survive out there. The only reason I am allowed out here today is because I’m supposed to catch my own rabbit for dinner.”

“Did you still need to catch one?” Kiara attempted to peer around looking for his prey.

“I already left it near the border. I only came out this far because,” Kovu paused as a light blush burned under his fur. “I was trying to see if I could find you again.”

Kiara’s face brightened into a smile so radiant that Kovu could feel it’s warmth.

“I came here to try and find you to Kovu!” Kiara beamed and let out a light laugh.

Kovu couldn’t help the grin that split his muzzle, and he brought his two front paws to lightly touch her front right arm. “I’m glad we found each other Kiara.”

The pair decided that it would be in their best interest to stay quiet, just incase someone came looking for Kiara. They sun bathed and took the occasional dip into the pond to cool off. It wasn’t long enough for them, but sunset soon descended upon their small forms.

“Will I see you here again tomorrow?” Kovu inquired softly.

“I’ll make my way over here and soon as I know I’m not being followed,” Kiara promised.

With that, the cubs parted ways. The darker cub slowly slinking his form into the shadows; while the brighter cub walk boldly in the light back onto her father’s trail. Both feeling lighter at the thought of seeing the other in the morrow."
