Description
Next Chapter: Chapter 2 (WoF OC story)
Two RainWings stood on top of the Rainforest trees, watching the sun sink down past the horizon. One, with her scales turning a sad dark blue, turned to the other and spoke quietly, “I’m sorry about today. I know you wanted to go fly to the end of the sky, but I knew Queen Dazzling wouldn’t agree. We should have waited to ask Queen Grandeur; although she is kind of grumpy, she seems to be the fairest of the queens…”
The other RainWing kept looking out past the Rainforest, hoping she could will herself there. “No, Glamour, I must be here for you. Although I wish I could travel Pyrrhia and see different dragons than the ones I’ve seen my whole life, I must protect you.”
Glamour looked sternly back at her friend, “Canopy, do NOT let me hold you back! I can come with you, we can travel the world together!”
Canopy winced to herself as she thought of all the ways Glamour could get hurt, “I won’t let you go, you could get hurt. Besides,” She dramatically moves her wings in a regal way and matched her scale colors to those of Dazzling and mimicked flowers draped over her shoulders, “Why would you want to fly to the end of the world, when you can stay here and sleep and eat all day?”
Glamour giggled and her scales shuffled to a her soft purple again, but quickly started turning red, “Don't think you can hide that insult from me by making me laugh! You don't think I can stand off against a full grown dragon? You don't think I can take care of myself?”
Canopy laughed to herself, “Could you even use your venom to hurt another dragon? You can't very well carry a sleeping dart tube around with you all of the time.”
Glamour glared up at Canopy, “I could! Maybe…”
Canopy doubted the soft RainWing could even accidently bump another dragon without feeling guilty the rest of the day. And even though she loved to prove herself right, Canopy suspected she would never be able to defend herself if she ever got herself in a jam.
Glamour looked back at the fading light that lingered on the horizon, “Why don't we talk about this tomorrow, I'm getting tired,” She said before sniffling a yawn.
Canopy nodded her head and laid down, “I'm sleeping here tonight, where I can see all the stars. You can go back to the village if you wish.” But, just like every night, Glamour lay down next to her friend.
She looked back up at Canopy, “I'm gonna stay right here with you always.” Her scales turned back to their normal soft violet as she drifted to sleep.
Canopy smiled to herself and cast a look over her shoulder at the two moons rising from the opposite of the fading light. She put her wing over Glamour's small body as she often did, more for Canopy's comfort than Glamour's. Then she lay her head over her talons and drifted into a comfortable sleep.
*****
When Canopy awoke she was being nudged by Glamour, who seemed to have been up for a while.
The sleepy RainWing stood up and rolled her eyes. “Glamour, it's not even sunrise yet! I'm going back to bed.” But before Canopy could lay back down, the smaller RainWing grabbed her front talon and pulled her out of the leaves that had been their bed for that night. Canopy had no chance but to fly. Glamour had uses this trick every time Canopy wouldn't get up, because she knew after Canopy had stretches her wings there was no way for her to get back to sleep.
“I thought we could collect fruit before the sun came up! We can have a competition on who can collect the most in the dark!” Glamour said triumphantly.
Canopy sighed, but nodded, “Here are the rules: no pushing, we can't search in the same spot, and no more help from your little sloth friend.”
“Awwww, come on, Slow-poke isn't even fast enough to grab fruit!” Glamour protested.
“That doesn't stop him from nabbing my share of the fruit that I keep in my… um… secret place.”
The soft, purple RainWing groaned, but didn’t protest. Before Canopy could say anything else, she yelled, “I call the Grove!”
Canopy laughed and yelled back, loud enough for anyone within the mile to hear, “I CALL THE STREAM!!!”
Glamour covered her ears sharply, “You better be glad you’re my best friend. I would have bit your nose off if you were any other dragon.”
Canopy put her head in her hands and pretended to be ashamed, “Oh no, do I need to take a nap already! I’m sorry Mother, but if you insist, I guess I could sleep a couple more hours,” She said before starting to fly back to their makeshift nest. Glamour crossed her arms and rolled her eyes, “Okay, but that’s a forfeit. That means I win!”
Canopy turned back around and gave a sly smile, “On your mark, get set… GO!”
As Glamour’s eyes grew wide and she struggled to fly fast enough in the other direction, Canopy glided lazily in the other direction, keeping a sleepish pace.
She could soon hear the trickling water that flowed down the stream and as she swooped down, she saw her many favorite fruits: mangos, bananas, figs, and (her absolute favorite) coconut.
Canopy swooped down towards the trees and grabbed as many coconuts that she could fit in her arms, and was about to fly back, but realized how hungry she was. Turning around, she landed next to the stream, “Dang it! If I were still asleep, then I wouldn’t be hungry yet.” She yawned and started scrambling through the strewn coconuts that she had collected.
The RainWing bent over and cracked one of the biggest ones open, before eating the white flesh. It tasted so sweet that she cracked another one.
Suddenly she felt a dizzy sensation, like she was being watched, but before she could turn around, two black and purple talons slipped around her throat. She struggled to breath, only having enough energy to shoot a little venom from her fangs, but it missed the dragon and hit a leaf about a foot away. It melted quickly until there was nothing left. The grass that lay next to it melted as well until finally it stopped.
The captor that was choking her seemed to take interest, which left a small window for Canopy to fight back. She grabbed the talons that held tight around her neck, but they would not budge. Instead, they got tighter. The RainWing tried to scream but with no air, there was no way for her get her voice out of her mouth.
Darkness started to spread into her eyes, until she couldn't see anything. She then went unconscious.
*****
Canopy gasped awake, not knowing if it had been a dream or not. But when she looked around, she knew it had not been a dream. This place was so much different than the Rainforest she called home. She lay on a rock slab in a large cave lined with torches. The heat seemed that surround her was unlike any she had felt, even though she lived in the Rainforest.
“You know, it's about time you woke up, sleepy-head,” A voice called from the other side of the cave. The figure seemed to blend in with the shadows. Canopy realized the dragon must be a NightWing. Her scales sparkling above her underbelly and the stars on her wings was the only way for Canopy to see her.
“What's your name, RainWing? Funny I've never seen a RainWing before. You look so… beautiful.”
“My name is Canopy, but shouldn't you know that already? I mean, you're a NightWing, aren't you?”
The NightWing looked at her quickly for a moment, then seemed to realize something, “Of, of course I knew that. I can read your mind and I… um… knew that my brother would find you, because I can see into the future.”
Canopy didn't question why the black and purple dragon was lying to her, I stead she asked, “So, what's your name NightWing? Also, where am I?”
“First, my name is Fallenstar.”
“And second, you're in the Secret NightWing Kingdom.”
To Be Continued…
Whew! That took me forever!
Ugh, resolution brings it down!
Also, feel free to ship on! I don't care, lol! (Just keep in mind that I will pair everyone up at the end of the series, so don't get mad)
Feel free to leave a comment!
Thank You, Lovable-Peril!
