It's strictly my personal opinion, but I think one's artwork should speak for itself unless you have a good reason to insert yourself into it.
I just kind of thought the artist's face distracted from the embroidery work.

Oh, you mean if one was to knit a jumper, or embroider an accessory or bag, you find it more practical to sort of model that, or demonstrate?
I do find that to be a good point, actually, and considering you seem more interested in sewing and textiles than I am, so I suppose you have more of a right to say that it's distracting than I do.

That's quite true, actually; getting what you ask for, and you asked for the art, not the artist.
You have a fine point about it been distracting, too, especially if you're trying to concentrate on the patterns of the fabric or the stitches I suppose a human would more often than not get in the way.
