Story~
“No?”

This was the last thing Soul remembered hearing from Chrysalis' mouth before she was sent like a rag doll through the halls and out into the foyer. Where had the motherly love that Chrysalis had show her gone? The years of study and devotion, love and commitment, the tutoring and codling, the love of mother for daughter? In a flash of decrepit Changeling magic she was tossed out like so much discarded offal. A lifetime of love loss in a flicker of a flame.
Though she flew through the air and out the castle in less than a instant, for Soul it seemed to last an eternity. The second her queen struck her with the acrid beam her body experienced ten lifetimes of torment. Her skin writhed as the nature of what she was disintegrated. Her horns, once smooth, pristine spires became gnarled and warped foul hooks. Her changeling body mutilated and snapped into a caprafied visage of she once was. The perfect holes on her arms and legs sealed shut by searing sorcery. As she tumbled Soul remembered her childhood fondly; how Chrysalis had chosen her to be her successor to her thrown....to be the next to queen the Changelings. The years spent learning to love, write, speak and understand seemed to shatter like untempered glass, each shard a memory dissolving into sand.
Soul landed with a sickening thud in the foyer, every ounce of her body racked with agony. Her lifeless eyes stared expressionless into the culling and sick sun of Ephemera. The light choked the ground and murmuring Changelings from all around gathered around her. Brothers and sisters all gawked with confusion, hesitant to help their former leader. She tried to speak and plead but only a pathetic whimper eked out of her bleeding mouth. Her pain and dissolution kept her fixed as she felt her blood sour in her veins. From behind Chrysalis graced the Changelings. The hive-mind could feel her anger and in unison quaked with terror.
“Behold!” Her voice viperous and spiteful as it carried far and wide. “Behold! Even the highest of you may even fall should my mercy be treated discourteously!” Her voice was commanding and increasingly venomous as her false love seemed to sway her slightly.
“May all behold the marked one!”As she spoke Chrysalis' horn glowed a gangrenous green as Soul could feel her flank being flayed by a white hot pain, the magic sublimating her flesh. She could only peter out a gargled whimper as the queen completed her symbol. “May no one forget this day, for it is the first and last day anyone in MY Queensland said 'No.'” Chrysalis laughed and the hive-mind echoed her banshee like screeches. They gawked and jeered, any memory of their sister washed away by her spoiling blood. Chrysalis turned solemnly from the scene and proceeded into her castle.
“Mothe....r...” Was the last word Soul could muster with her strength. The note fell sour on Queen Chrysalis' ears.
“If you haven't yet lost the ability to ask, you may not yet ask for relief." Chrysalis muttered under the cacophony of jeering, a single tear rolling down her somber face.
