Description
Racing cockpits can vary in their exact layout among different race teams. The center touch screen is prevalent in nearly all designs and is useful for customizing displays to each pilot's preference. The most important controls would be located on the stick and throttle. Many of them are based on fighter jet control schemes. Since there are no armaments or countermeasures, many of the buttons and switches now control various engine modes.
Right behind the pilot's seat is the onboard camera. It can follow the pilot's helmet movement to track what they're looking, or it can remained fixed pointing forward. Race engineers can use these to collect additional data, but they are mainly there for spectating and broadcasting.
The MK23L Ejection Seat is the standard seat among all race jets. Despite this, no two seats are the same. The carbon fiber honeycomb backing and seat cushions are custom made to each pilot. Sometimes these parts of the seat are changed between races if a pilot gains or loses enough weight. Having a form fitting seat puts pressure evenly along the pilot's body when performing high-g maneuvers.
Aside from the fancy seat covers, the seat has many features of modern ejection seats such as having different abort profiles depending on the speed and altitude of the aircraft, or providing a supply of emergency oxygen. Some of the mechanical parts have been replaced with electric solenoids rather than pyrotechnics but ejecting is still a rather violent process. Even if a pilot ejects nominally, they rarely recover in time for their next race, which leads teams to rely on substitute pilots while their main pilots recover.
The seats also include a light survival kit. A full survival kit is not necessary since there are plenty of search and rescue vehicles on stand-by during any race, so it takes about an hour to rescue bailed out pilots. These survival kits include 100 oz of water, transponder, first aid kit, signal flare, and a personal flotation device.
Modeled in blender and rendered in Eevee.
Now I just need to model a flight suit (which could take a while).
