Description
I completed this painting a little while ago for the Share One Planet Competition: [link]You had to select a certain type of animal to illustrate. I chose the Platalea minor which is a black-faced spoonbill.
In keeping with the guidelines of the "Harmony" category, I wanted to illustrate the action of sharing the ecosystem. Water is a symbol of life in this painting and I highlighted the idea that water sustains all life forms and is something shared on this planet between animals and humans. I wanted to reflect these two species existing in harmony without threat to one another - so close in proximity and seeming comfortable.

I guess I'm not of the right mind for this painting. My first thought was, "Don'tΒ drink that! The birds are shitting in that water." Then I scroll down to the description and read that the piece is all about harmony in nature and I felt guilty.Β

This is absolutely beautiful. So many people seem to think of "protecting the environment" meaning removing ourselves, humans, as far from it as possible, and just "not touching it." But this shows a wonderful, optimistic idea of us being able to be involved in it in a gentler, more positive wayΒ instead. Very uplifting and thought-provoking.
Beautiful art technique-wise too, of course. Well-done all around! I hope this gets a DD!

Well before i read the title or the name of the competition it was for I thought about how this image made me think about sharing the planet and being close to the animals.

Ideally a pix to do this with Impact, would be a wild cougar lapping cream poured into a cupped hand from a half liter milk carton, at dusk..
Next pix would be a wild cougar resting its head comfortably on a persons lap by the fading fire...
Next times I heads into the bush, I plan to always have a small carton of cream wrapped in ice, in my pack..Β I thinks I could pull this off..Β Feed the monster sweet milk, and you are essentially "mummy" to it..Β I would then use a soft rag wet with warm water to gently wipe its face like a mummy would..
I'm bets I'd have a wild cougar sleeping near my tent part of the night...
I've met three cougars up close and personal...

When I looked at it for the first time I thought it was actually real life! LIKE WHOA! I showed my mother this and she was absolutely stunned, she didn't have any words!
