Description
Princess Zelda from Legend of Zelda: Twilight PrincessZelda from Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Original line-art found here:
Discontinued old version found here:
Update:
2014 - 0.5 minor update: Added color and tweaked some more.
2014 - 0.4 minor update: Minor tweaking added. Started working on tiara and jewels.
2014 - 0.3 Update: Nearly done with hair (only needing another layer with detail, single hair flying around etc). Drew and shaded missing hair wrapping. Drew some folds on the dress (incomplete) and did additional shade tweaking.
2014 - 0.2 Update: This is not an abandoned piece, I recently browsed through my all my WIP work and decided this piece deserved some attention (really want to complete it). I have done some minor tweaks to the already existing shading adding more realistic shadows and light. More notable I have redone the hair completely and is almost done with the first layers of all the hair - please be aware that hair will obviously get a more realistic look eventually.
2009 - 0.1 minor update: Did some more shading and added some text explaining new viewers that the new piece is to the left and the old one to the right.
Description:
This is a complete rework of an old (but fairly popular) piece I have done before. There are quite some drastic changes - most being much better and realistic proportions, that may be to some peoples preference and others dismay. I think it is a major improvement over the older piece.
Feel free to give me your opinion. I'm not so much interested in critique at this state, through.

FAQ:
Q: What tools did you use to draw this?
A: I cleaned the lines in with the brush tool in Photoshop using my Wacom Intuos4 tablet. I used the pen tool to shape, copy and transform the scales. Shading have been one with my newer Intous5 tablet.
Q: How long did it take you to draw this?
A: Not sure, it took me some time to ink this and I haven't counted hours spend shading.
Q: Can I color this?
A: I do not grant permissions to color my works any longer, the only exception being I already colored it myself.
Q: Can I use this?
A: No. Do not use, upload or reupload to dA without my explicit written permission. If found elsewhere without my permission I'll personally report it to the site administration as stolen.

eye-wise; I like the first one better, but with shading and anatomy I like the second one.
Though my opinion may not be very helpful since my own anatomy sucks to no end.

For me the first one is the old version and the second one the new version? Is that what you mean, or just from left to right?

left to right is what I mean. sorry for the confusion.

Ah well. I haven't come far with the shading on the new version, but the anatomy and proportions of the old one (the one you prefer in that matter) is way off. Some like the old eyes better. In my opinion I like the newer version better in any ways.. I just need to pull myself together and finish it some day.

Well, it does look pretty good, but I have some constructive criticism to throw your way, I have two points to make:
1- It looks like her crown is too far up, and her forehead looks huge to me.... just a little off proportion, but enough to make me want to comment, I think if you lower the crown a bit, but leave the hair and everything above it in the same place, ultimately shrinking down a little bit of the forehead it will look really good.
2- I don't know if it was intentional, and if it was I apologize, but her smile seems a little dull, and her face seems, off somehow just above and to the left of the smile, I think the smile could be angled, or curved a little higher and to the left and it could fix that.
That said, I'm not trying to say that your work sucks, because it is stunning to look at, and it seems nitpicky what I pointed out, but little things like that could make the whole thing look a lot better.

You did a good decision redrawing it. I really really like the new version, exceping the breast but -as you say- is just my oponion.
anyway, still working on this pic
I already want to see the final one!!

Yeah, weren't too fond of the old one.
Thanks - you could have left the boob comment out as it really doesn't consern me.
I keep working on it.

I hope to see a finished production of this piece. I found the original to be really good, both for subject matter (lol) and artistic style. One thing I like is that you've made her posture much more natural, and the angle also makes the picture seem more well-composed than it did before.
All in all, great improvement over the original, it's easy to tell that you've improved since you last worked on it

Well, differences they are, but the picture as a whole has improved due to them. Either way, I give you a pre-emptive congratulations on a job well done.

Well, Link-theguy, what i think you should do is keep the right ones face, left ones breasts, and everything under the breast can be filled by either
THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION, so please dont be offended
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK

It's your opinion, and it'll have no effect on later result.
I'll stick to the left one, all the way.

She's not standing straight though right? It looks like her leg is up a bit at the bottom so it would mean she's a bit turned or something -might be wrong-, so I think the hips flow with it fine. o: -to the comment somewhere back there-
Anyway it's looking great. ^^ Can't wait for another update or the final. c: Goodluck. xD

She looks a bit too skinny around the side of her where her shoulder gaurd ends on the left side of her torso ... ^^ yeah thats about all I think
π: 0 β©: 1
magicalme007 In reply to lthot [2009-06-14 15:54:38 +0000 UTC]
Yeah like the way her side goes seems a bit out of porpotion to me... I don't think I've ever seen a girl who looks like that... Not even I look like that and I am a girl!
π: 0 β©: 1
lthot In reply to magicalme007 [2009-06-14 22:52:04 +0000 UTC]
That's a minor issue. First off I haven't finished shading that area yet, so some parts of her look "flat".. especially around the bust and waist area - her bosom has mostly been shaded through. Secondly, it's really a matter of realism. I usually prefer not to get comments on realism as it's not what I aim for - as you clearly can see her eyes for example are way too large to be realistic. I bet you don't have eyes like her - even if you're a girl.

magicalme007 In reply to lthot [2009-06-16 20:05:58 +0000 UTC]
XD Oh I see then I suppose she is fine the way she is - well be greatful you didn't over exaggerate her torso or hips! But anyways good job!

lthot In reply to magicalme007 [2009-06-16 20:25:05 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, as I said I wasn't aiming for realism. This is my style and way of drawing.
Thanks.
