Description This is the Hylian shield that i made for a shop class in my uh...hmmm...sophmore year in high school.(i think) Its all metal and kinda heavy. took quite awhile and i could have done a few more things to it. the right talon on the bird looks wierd cause i had to braze it on for the weld on the back of the shield would hold it. Not sure if this is in the correct class but hey.
Hylian shield is (c) of Nintendo

It might take a while fir to finally show up in the groups submissions. If after 2 weeks the group doesn't accept it, just send me a message.

Nice metal work. I never really got much into the Zelda Game Series but I have made several all wooden weapons grade shields. Here's one that I recently finished about a couple months ago, its a weapons grade (as in it is built to withstand real blows from real melee weapons) all wood Grecian style round shield: [link] that I made that will go with my future full Grecian style suit of armor as a Halloween costume.

Hopefully I'll have the money saved up soon and it will be made up of painted 14 gauge steel plate and leather.

now that would be sweet! always want an armor set of my own.

I'll bet. And I'm assuming that yours would be based off of Link's armor.

LtLink In reply to Deorse [2012-07-24 01:22:23 +0000 UTC]

it will have some legend of zelda influences. all i have is a few concept drawings. course as seeing that i dont have the proper set up to make armor(yet) itll be down the road from now..

Yeah it the way it is fir me too. I'm trying to find some DIY metal work vids that I can watch so that I might be able so see if I can build this armor without having to invest a whole lot of money into the tools themselves.

From some of my brief previous metal working experiences at my college, I'd almost certainly suggest using 14 gauge steel plate because of it's light weight to thickness ratios.

hmm. 14 you say. shouldve used that for my shield. i used 12. and never really thought of the diy vids. ill have to look into this. thanks for the info!

Deorse In reply to LtLink [2012-07-27 02:59:35 +0000 UTC]

No I think 12 works just fine fir it since it's just a shield.

Actually, I was talking with someone who has some experience working with metal, and hew thinks that I should go with 16 gauge steel fir my suit of armor to keep it more historically accurate.

BTW, what did you have to do to give your shield a "curved" look?

LtLink In reply to Deorse [2012-07-30 04:19:06 +0000 UTC]

true. and true. and that was one thing i wasnt capably of doing. so its just flat. i wanted to do it but didnt have the right tools, talent, or time to do.

I was just going to say that your shield has a curved look to it.

Deorse In reply to LtLink [2012-07-31 01:09:11 +0000 UTC]

Oh, so other than the decorations that you braze welded on, it's as flat as a pancake.

LtLink In reply to Deorse [2012-08-01 03:05:53 +0000 UTC]

yes. they're all welded on cept the one leg of the bird. what i did was drilled wholes in the main plate and placed the decorations on and welded em on from the back so it looks clean. but flat as a pancake indeed.

Well, Link had to lug around a metal shield too! It would certainly give you some muscle from carrying it everywhere, though. XD

LtLink In reply to Neria-Mahariel [2011-07-08 06:53:36 +0000 UTC]

true true. but i messed up on the straps on the back and when you hold it its uneven. shoulda put them a little lower and sideways. but then it would be exactly like the hylian shield.(course its not exactly like it but pretty close i like to say)

Neria-Mahariel In reply to LtLink [2011-07-08 06:57:53 +0000 UTC]

I think it's close, too. It'd be difficult to make an exact replica. >.< But I say you did a pretty good job.
