Captain on the bridge:

A recent event has forced me to drop all the numerous pictures I have been drawing and focus on this. Well, to be fair, many events have kinda forced me to alter my schedule, but in this special case, I have decided to re-watch Treasure Planet. Sometimes you have to try and re-experience something you really loved to find out if it really holds up. Now I can confidently say that Treasure Planet IS my most favourite Disney animated movie. It's so good! I think I actually have had more fun the second time I watched it. That happens to me rarely.
And here is the proof of my claims. Clockwork Captain is a picture I have drawn because of how inspiring Treasure Planet is so now, I return with a second rendition of her, albeit with a few slight alterations.
I usually draw my militaristic dresses by looking at uniforms and trying to make them into dresses, usually by adding a skirt. In this case, I simply decided to reverse the process. I took a typical girly dress, in this case a late Baroque bell gown and somehow tried to make it look militaristic. This was actually harder than I originally envisioned because Baroque is well know for its over the top fanciness and while uniforms of this period are fancy as well, they are not THIS fancy. Funny thing is that now the original Clokwork Captain looks like a practical outfit. I thought that was too fancy for a military uniform but when you compare it to this, it's starting to looks downright plain and straightforward. Come to think of it, there have actually existed uniforms which were ornamental and those were the uniforms of personal or royal guards. That actually makes sense because those would be present during celebrations so naturally they had to look the part. There were also formal uniforms or custom made uniforms which were meant for parades and festive occasions. Many nobles wanted to have their luxurious outfits evoke a militaristic mood because that was a symbol of strength and respect.
So if we consider all that, I suppose we can say that the original Clokwork Captain is a "functional" military uniform whereas this, the Classy Clowkwork Captain, is a formal uniform meant for celebrations.
Apart from the dress, I changed what I could while still trying to keep the character somewhat similar. I changed the pose and perspective first of all, but I also changed her mascara and her wig, maybe a little bit too much. The mascara makes her eyes look different because of the more pronounced eyeliner and eyelashes. At least I kept the colour scheme mostly the same. The design of the dress and the pose also reveal much more of her upper body so we get a better look at her cybernetics in all their mechanical gearwork-lish splendor. Even the little clockwork spider is back! We also get a better look at her ... aaaaaah ... Heavy Star Cruisers! Yes! You could conquer the whole galaxy with those!
As for the background, I decided to draw something a bit more familiar. It is indeed the Montressor Starport. I guess that means I officially created a Treasure Planet OC. A shame I still don't have a name for her.
I also wanted to link the song from Tresure Planet: I'm Still Here, but I already did that in the original Clockwork Captain so ... Here there be 8-bitty remixing of Keelhauled! ARRR!
