Description

The Lotus Revolver started as a german wheellock pistol (probably dating back to the 16th century) that found its way to Japan in the hands of a firearms enthusiast and collector around 1600.

During the Shimabara Rebellion, the weapon went missing, only to be found by its former owner decades later with the firing mechanism damaged beyond repair. The pistol was stored and didn’t saw service until the Boshin War, when its mechanism was crudely replaced by the one from a Remington New Model Army (percussion revolver), later being converted to use metallic cartridges during the Satsuma Rebellion.

It wasn’t until the 1950 era that the weapon was submitted to a complete redesign, having a quicker break-top reloading mechanism (based on the Type 26 revolver), new rifling, new wood stock with black lacquer finishing, gold and oxidized copper (verdigris) plating, reinforced cylinder (being able to shoot the newly developed and much more powerful .44 Magnum round) and the lotus flower engravings from which the revolver acquired its nickname.

NOTEs: the forend and handle kanji reads "Have the Courage for Righteousness", and the golden dragon sculpture is actually the firing hammer piece.
