Description I first came in contact with this method of studying with artists that were part of the Crimson Daggers community, but I know that this way of thinking is much older than digital art.

Keep in mind these 3 are different drawings, so I did draw him 3 times and the 3rd one is from memory, so I wasn't looking at the reference. Of course part of it is creation, but most is just what I "remember" since before I was carefully observing everything.

Give it a try... just copying for the sake of copying doesn't defy or tests the knowledge you got from the study. If you know you'll have to remember, you pay more attention and try to understand rather than imitating
Hope you enjoy it!

Cheers,
Lucas

Really good advice!
I have a question - you don't look at reference during 3rd attempt, but do you look at your previous sketches?

Hey, glad you asked. I don't look at neither. Just trying to remember stuff. First time is harder, but then you realize you have to pay more attention on the 1st and 2nd time... and that's the real benefit of it, since you know you'll have to test yourself, you will not just mindless copy. Try to understand what you are seeing

Nice! If you feel frustrated is because you're entering new territory and leaving your comfort zone.... and that's great for your growth

I love how this is put together to be both a reference and an art piece.

I'm it does, that was my purpose.

We often say people need to study but sometimes are too vague on the methods that we can use
