Description This is a cultured neuron from a rat. The cell nuclei is the green spot in the middle and the extensions are called axons. With the axons, the neuron make contact with other neurons and can thereby transmit information.

actually the "branches" are generally called neurites, most of them are dendrites and only one is the axon. nice image

this is a DRG neuron, which is a pseudounipolar neuron without any dendrites. though I agree, neurites, rather than axons, may be the better way of describing these processes. cheers
