Any progress on this? The site is still under construction.Β  Since this has been mentioned 3D printing has become a thing.Β  Any chance of releasing the STL's and or source files? I'd love to have a printed model of this.

Fantastic work! Time well spent I'd say. I really like the original design, I once thought to contact flyingdebris to ask if I could sculpt it,Β lol, guess I waited too long. but you have done a better job than I could , great 3d translation.

wish I had some 3d modelling skills, 100 hours sounds good compared to the 7 years I spent hand sculpting my Latest kit lol!

I have yet to make something this awesome in 3D. And I've always loved how things looked in translucent materials ^^

Just... words do not describe this.

How long did it take?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lucid-Grey In reply to resinhead [2013-10-22 21:25:10 +0000 UTC]

this is a digital render of the model, the real resin model is here whitedragonminiatures.co.uk/in… it took about 100 hours to model in 3d

resinhead In reply to Lucid-Grey [2013-10-23 23:03:14 +0000 UTC]

Well done again.
I had a look at the resin model. did you cast it yourself? Its all steep learning curves.
I joined yesterday and Ive seen so much stuff with 3d and 3d printers. As soon as I can afford it Ill do the same as it is so much more effective. TBH I do traditional and it doesnt even touch this stuff and it takes about the same time.
Thanks for taking the time to show me the site.

Thanks .. I didn't cast it myself no. I actually made this 3d model for practise, and posted it on this website. then someone approached me wanting to make it into a resin kit. So from there we prepared the 3d model for printing, but it 3d printed then made moulds from that to do the castings.

Well you guys have done a great job.

100 hours isnt that great of an amount of time though TBH.

I spend somewhere around 200-300 on any major vehicle and then any mistakes have to be re made so what you are doing is the way to go.

If you dont mind Ill keep in touch from time to time to see how your doing with your projects.

I have a schedule to keep with a group of models i'm doing for a new game and as I said 100 hours are just great. I wish I had your skills myself as life would be sooo much easier lol.

Well, tbh.. if I made that model 1 year ago.. it could well have taken me 200-300 hours. but I've been learning techniques to get things done faster. If I made that model now. not only would it be better, but I would probably get it done in 50 hours.

Bugger thats good.

You better place me on the right path to learn this stuff too then.

I am interested.

Could you point me in the right direction?

Lucid-Grey In reply to resinhead [2013-10-25 03:34:51 +0000 UTC]

um... there is no clear direction other than study and hard work. I went to a 3d school for 80 weeks, that gave me all the basics, and from there I taught myself. Now Im working at weta digital making movies!.. by the way.. have you seen the other renders?.. like this one. lucid-grey.deviantart.com/art/…
