Description Software used: Apophysis

Dipping my toes into some of my older flames, I made a few new tweaks. Honesty, I'm not liking this flame all that much. Not that I think this is a bad piece of art, but the shapes unsettle me, the alien-organic feel of it makes my teeth hurt. I see it as a semi-organic building in some alien world. What does it evoke in you?

Thank you for your feedback What should I do to make the impact better?

P.S. Technically, it's not a painting, it's a fractal artwork

I think to make more of an impact, put a little more emotion into it, then I think It'd be on the spot!

Well, there's certainly emotion in it, I even wrote a post about the artwork on my Patreon I guess that artist's message may not always be clear to everyone.

I showed this to my brother and this was his reaction:
'What is that?' I responded with 'A piece of art.' and he said: 'That is the prettiest artwork I have ever seen!'
So, yeah. You just got a critique from my brother! Yay!
This is a very well done piece of art. The colors match each other perfectly, and the name suits it well. The originality is fantastic, and I could stare at this all day. So five stars for both of those. The swirls and flowers give it a realistic, 3D effect, and this is one of the best pieces I have critiqued on. So I give five stars to each of those.
Great job on this piece! I enjoy each of them, and when you request a critique, you know I'll be there!

I personally feel like there is just too much going on? It is hard to focus on a certain area in this piece. Also there is a lot going on within the organic form itself. I think if you were to focus in on a certain point and reducing the amount of different mark making might help this piece to be more successful. You might also want to try looking at this piece in a b/w setting, you may find that the organic shape that dominates over the piece has little contrast within it.

To me there's just too many lines that seem random rather than purposeful.

I hope that helps and makes sense lol. You're off to a good start, you just gotta focus in on what it is you want to prioritize over the other e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>
Great job otherwise!

Thank you for your feedback! This is actually what fractal art used to look like 10 years ago, lots of lines and very abstract, so I know that the piece is a bit regressive. In contrast with my usual pieces it's definitely more on the chaotic side, but that what I was going for
Perhaps you'll enjoy my newest piece more, it's made with the same parameters but less chaotic, I hope

I see it as a burst of uncontrolled magic from a single source, as though someone -- or something -- just above the top of the screen found an eldritch artifact that was too strong for them, and now they have accidentally unleashed its power, with drops and waves of pure energy cascading down like a storm.

And I see it as magic - in a powerful moment unfolding, but not yet completed (hence the magical odd figures...)

You are with Apo or Apo7x?

lucid-light In reply to Lior-Art [2016-08-16 07:21:10 +0000 UTC]

This one is Apo 7x because I'm using 3D settings in it, but I use the "old" Apo sometimes as well.

I was working Apo7x15c but I have forgotten this programme.
Now I am back to Mandelbub 3D and may be I'll come back to Apo

lucid-light In reply to Lior-Art [2016-08-16 08:54:39 +0000 UTC]

I hear that MB3D is not being developed anymore, so maybe it's better to switch to Apo because eventually there's always someone making new versions. Apo 7x and regular Apo are basically the same, only Apo 7x has some extra features but it seems to render some flames slower than regular Apo. So it depends on what you're going to make with it.

Lior-Art In reply to lucid-light [2016-08-16 12:27:52 +0000 UTC]

10 years ago it wasn't possible to make a flower with MDB3D.
10 years later, in 2015, we can make a flower with MDB3D.
MDB3D works like a landscape generator.
With MDB3D I have a spiritual approach.
The last version gives a possibility to make mutagen(mutations)
They have added more formulae so we have more possibilities with MDB3D.

I worked with apo7x15c (32bits), I learnt Julian and Julia...

With Apo I can recognise you are an exception: you don't seem to tweek flams but you built all by yourself.

I am now in 64bits so some said Apo7 64 hasn't the same behaviour.
I have to make a try

lucid-light In reply to Lior-Art [2016-08-16 15:50:11 +0000 UTC]

Well, the same goes for Apo, we couldn't make flowers 10 years ago and now it's possible because of new functions etc. What I meant is that I heard that further development of MB3D is being discontinued, so you may get stuck with software that will not be developed in future. But I suppose the same could happen to Apo, so maybe you should just pick the one that suits you best, or use both for that matter

Sometimes it's difficult to draw a line where tweaking ends and building my own flame begins. I do a lot of tweaking, actually, but often I go so far from the original flame that nobody could possibly trace the "original". Example:
Original flame -   - my first tweak -   and my later tweaks -

Plus, another thing to remember is a fact that the original by plangkye was loosely based on tutorial from yet another person. How can we say with certainty that one is tweak and other is new flame someone created with the knowledge they learned from other person's parameters/tutorial? For me, almost all fractals are tweaks in a certain way, most of us look at other people's fractals or parameters, pick inspiration here and there. That's the core of fractal art, it's ever-mutating virus jumping from one mind to another and we're all connected through it

I am looking for a tutorial for Apo(Apo7x) explaining how to do to make something like this
It'd be a good beginning : I love this texture.

Then I highly recommend this tutorial:   It should help you learn how to make fractals similar to the one you linked
