Description
Software used: ApophysisSo, um, I'm not entirely sure how this one happened. It's one of the "falling down the rabbit hole" fractals, where I just keep going and going and find myslef miles away from what I intended to do, yet oddly intrigued by the scenery. Here I found an undersea kingdom where fish can fly, I think.
I also have a horizontal version up my sleeve but both versions tell different story, so the other one may yet make it to my gallery after further tweaking.
Oh yes, and the original is: - just so you can picture how far did I go, although I did keep the gradient because none other seemed to fit.

The seaweed is always greener In
Somebody else's lake
You dream about going up there
But that is a big mistake
Just look at the world around you
Right here on the ocean floor
Such wonderful things surround you
What more is you lookin' for?

interesting art, is this randomly generated? are there any caclulations involved?

Thank you It's not randomly generated. If I were to simplify the process of making a fractal artwork, first you have a blank canvas (in Apophysis, that's the software I use), then you add first layer with a mathematical function (variation) that creates circle, then you add another 4 layers with a linear variation that duplicates the circles infinitely in regular pattern. Then, if you want to fill in the blanks between the circles you add yet another layer with let's say diamond shaped variation and repeat the duplication process and ta-daa, you have a patten with circles and diamonds. There is well over 100 variations that you can use, you can combine several of them in one layer or in multiple layers, each variation has a value that can be just about as little as 0,0001 or as big as 100000 - and with different values of the same variation you can create different patterns.
That's roughly how fractal art works, there is no randomness involved. You don't need to calculate anything. All you need is knowing which variation does what and how to combine them within a layer or within multiple layers, the creation process is absolutely human-driven. If there is randomness involved, it's in the process of learning new technique when people try out combinations they never tried before (yet even here you still need at least a rough idea what you're doing, putting in numbers randomly and hoping for the best usually won't cut it), in that case the predicted results may not be as tangible, yet once the artist learns the new technique, the process is again entirely conscious.

More like super-boring in theory, but quite fun in practise

Right?! I wasn't sure whether it's underwater scenery or sky scenery, it could be both as once as well

Thank you I'm not sure if you're familiar with Patchface from A Song of Ice and Fire, he's a mad jester and he sings about fish having wings under the sea. I think that's where the inspiration came from, since the first version of the title was "Under the Sea, the Fish Can Fly" but it seemed too long, so I kept the short version

I do the same thing xD. Sometimes I'll open something I planed to work on, but then I end up making something else or just playing around with the tools and features.
This is really pretty. The colors and design are great. I really love your style . Awesome job on this!

Cool! I think it's good to stray from time to time, one almost always discovers new things that way
Also, thank you for your compliments
