I don't know why but every time I look at this I keep thinking it's a real toy. If that were the case I would say that this shot show the loneliness of the toy waiting for a child to come home and play with it. Then I read ornament so then I'm all 'Okay." But hell, the shot you have makes this appear as if it's a really big object.

Excellent composition. I like the side lighting. There are a couple of places where the highlights are slightly hot but I think it works ok β itβs just a very shiny object.

it is quite shiny for a wooden object. lol. but yeah, my lighting was quite very harsh too.

if you want some software lighting, you can try placing a normal tissue in front of the lamp. (Watch out the tissue doesn't catch fire!)

In order to do that, you need to have no 100% white highlights in your photo. If I look at your photo without using a histogram, I think I can see white spots on the hat of the figure and upper front of the train.
When adjusting colors, color levels, highlights etc in a photo, a white spot just stay white (since it contains no color). That's why it's better to take darker pictures (thus not overlighted anywhere) and lighten it up in photoshop (or any other tool).
But then again, it's just my opinion.
