I also want to paint this one day... I doubt I will match this version though. So vibrant, and I'm amazed it's watercolour... it has more of the solidity of gouache or something. You obviously know how to get the most out of watercolours Wonderful work!

Thank you for your kind comment! I'm a great fan of your work, btw.
Yeah, I've been working with watercolors for about four years and I think I finally convince them to obey me (To some extent, at least.) But I was a bit afraid if it would be possible to paint such a dark picture in watercolor - luckily the paper took the colour (and the huge amount of water) really nicely
(Plus I've seen from Elizabeth Kincaid's work that it is really possible to paint very dark pictures, rich on pigments, with waterocolor.)

So it takes four years to bend watercolours to your will... I just don't have the patience maybe one day it will happen!

No, I can well imagine it takes a long time to really get to know them. They're a difficult medium to work with, I'd think one of the hardest! I'm always impressed by those who can use them well...

Yes, they are quite tricky, but I like the randomness. It counteract my obsessive need to control everything

Thank you, I am really glad you like it. I still think the main credit belongs to your photo, it's easy to paint a nice picture from a great reference

As your signature suggests, traditional art has no "undo" button. The picture I took came with many undo buttons, a single RAW camera file I could edit the hell out of. And I'm very happy that you were able to capture the perfect essence of it with the stroke of a human hand.
I cannot thank you enough for this commission. If you must know, this black swan belongs to a couple in South Africa (near Pretoria), a couple who became friends with my father now dead from pancreatic cancer. A father once proud of his photography, and I can only hope at this point His vision lives on through me.

This is simply elegant. The tiny feather details are suburb and your usage of colors is inspiring. An instant favorite.
