Description
Made with deviantART muroAn Inspector Gadget-related picture I wanted to do for some time. In this picture, Inspector Gadget is having a picture taken with his friends and relatives. I will list and describe all of them.
Cave Gadget- Inspector Gadget's first ancestor. He lived with neanderthal versions of Penny and Brain. M.A.D. Agent Thelma Botkin was once sent to the stone age to eliminate him by Dr. Claw to prevent Inspector Gadget from existing. She failed and was arrested, though she later returned.
Gadgetorus- Inspector Gadget's ancestor in Ancient Rome. Wore a metal fedora and sounded exactly like Gadget, except with an Italian accent. Thelma Botkin was sent to get rid of him and retrieve what was said to be the secret of Rome. She failed to kill Gadgetorus, and the secret of Rome turned out to be some kind of food, rather than some kind of treasure. Dr. Claw was not happy.
Char and Chimney Gadget- Inspector Gadget's great-grandparents in 19th century London. They worked as chimney sweeps. In addition to terminating these two, Thelma Botkin was supposed to get the Crown Jewels, as Claw wanted them since he was a child. She is once again stopped from preventing Gadget from being born, but she ends up bringing fake Crown Jewels.
Chief Stromboli- Gadget's boss in Gadget boy & Heather, which is assumed by many to be about Inspector Gadget in his youth. Like Chief Quimby, he would read a message to Gadget Boy in order to tell him what the evil Spydra was up to. Unlike Quimby's messages, Stromboli received them from a fax machine built into his tie, and the messages did not self-destruct.
Professor Von Slickstein- In the original cartoon, was the man who equipped Inspector Gadget with his gadgets(in my continuity, he was just one of the people responsible for making him a cyborg). He first appeared in the episode The Amazon, where he is kidnapped by Dr. Claw and forced to build an army of deadly robots in the image of Inspector Gadget. In the end, the robots are destroyed and Von Slickstein is saved. He returned in the episodes Tyrannosaurus Gadget, Gadget's Roma, and Gadget's Clean Sweep to help Gadget, Penny, and Brain stop Thelma Botkin from getting rid of Gadget's ancestors.
Myron Dabble- In the Gadget Boy series, he was the one who made Gadget a cyborg. In the series, he would often supply Gadget boy, Agent Heather, and G-9 with gadgets for the missions, like Q from James Bond.
Brenda Bradford- She was the one who gave Gadget his gadgets in the live-action movie. In my continuity, she was responsible for installing the transportation gadgets(Gadget Blimp, Gadget Copter, Gadget 'Brella, Gadget Skates).
Baxter Adams- He appeared in the sequel to the movie, creating a female, robotic, and more competent version of Gadget called G2. He was only referred to as Baxter, so I made up his last name, naming him after the late Don Adams, the original voice actor for Gadget. Baxter was the one who installed Gadget's weapons(Gadget Hammer, Gadget Laser, Gadget Net).
Agent Heather- The first partner of Inspector Gadget when he was young. Like Penny, Heather was smarter than Gadget and secretly solved the cases for him. She is now retired, but isn't above going back to the action occasionally. G-9, who was built by Myron Dabble, was destroyed before Spydra was brought to justice, but Dabble has recently considered making a G-9 Mark II.
Melvin Scrapman(formerly and better known as Corporal Capeman)- I know a lot of you Inspector Gadget fans hate him, but I just had to do something with him. Despite how unpopular he is, I actually liked Capeman and I still do. This doesn't mean I expect him to return in the Gadget franchise, though. My theory on his origins is he was a nerd who liked to be a superhero, and got hit on the head after changing into his costume. He briefly teamed up with Gadget, until a case ended with him getting hit on the head again, returning him to his senses. He now fills in for Chief Quimby on giving Gadget the message if Quimby is sick or on vacation, or otherwise unable to inform Gadget of the current mission. I named him Melvin because Melvin was the nerdiest name I could think of. His surname refers to Scrappy Doo, another cartoon character hated by many that I liked(and I wasn't offended that he was the main villain in the Scooby Doo movie).
Chief Daniel Quimby- Chief of Police in Metro City. He usually informs Gadget of Dr. Claw's schemes(and possibly the plans of any criminal other than him) by giving him a message that self-destructs while in disguise or hiding somewhere. Unluckily for him, Quimby always has the explosive note blow up in his face. His first name was never revealed in any version of Inspector Gadget, but I gave him the name Daniel after his original voice actor Dan Hennessey.
Jules Gadget- The father of Inspector Gadget. He has an unusual hobby of inventing gizmos and met Gadget's mother when they crashed into one another on their bikes.
Annie Gadget I- Inspector Gadget's mother. Information about Gadget's parents was revealed in the spinoff series Gadget and the Gadgetinis episode Erasing Gadget, where a M.A.D. Agent attempts to prevent the meeting of Gadget's parents to prevent him from being born. In my continuity, Erasing Gadget is canon, but they went to the late 1970's instead of the 50's.
Inspector Donald Johnathan Gadget- Gadget himself. His first name I gave to him in honor of Don Adams and Don Francks(who voiced Dr. Claw in some episodes of the original show, and who's daughter Cree Summer voiced Penny). His middle name is a nod to the movie, where Gadget's real name was John Brown(early in development, I once considered having Gadget use the name John Brown as an alias, getting brown from his favorite color). In 1992, when he was 12 years old, he tried to retrieve his father's wallet from a pair of thugs. He ended up trapped in a building with a bomb and was injured by the explosion. He was rebuilt into a cyborg by Von Slickstein, Dabble, Bradford, and Adams. He was shocked at first to wake up as a walking Swiss Army Knife, but was excited to learn that he was chosen to become a police detective. His first mission(which lasted several years) was to go to New York and capture Spydra. Spydra was assisted by a talking vulture named Boris and twin thugs Mulch and Humous(who were the same people who mugged Jules Gadget). Gadget Boy was assisted by Agent Heather and G-9. When Gadget was 18, G-9 was destroyed, giving the young cyborg detective the motivation to effectively capture Spydra and her goons. Spydra, Boris, Mulch, and Humous currently are imprisoned in Ryker's Island prison. After that, Gadget moved back to his hometown Metro City and became Inspector. It wasn't until 2009 when Gadget started fighting the mysterious Dr. Claw and his M.A.D. Agents. He knows that some day he will defeat Claw for good with help from his niece Penny, his dog Brain, the Gadgetinis Fidget and Digit, and his sentient car Gadgetmobile.
Gadgetmobile- Inspector Gadget's car. He has gone through a lot of modifications. He was first built when Gadget was 16 and passed his driver's test. Back then, the Gadgetmobile was just an ordinary car(that is, if you consider a car equipped with gadgets that can change between a police car and a van ordinary). Some time after Inspector Gadget defeated Spuds Malone, the Gadgetmobile had a personality installed, and later was able to change into a jet and a boat in addition to police car and van.
Maurice Drummond- A secret agent, Penny's father, and Gadget's brother-in-law. I named him after Maurice LaMarche(who voiced Gadget in the later episodes of Gadget Boy, Gadget and the Gadgetinis, Inspector Gadget's Last Case, and Inspector Gadget's Biggest Caper Ever) and Brian Drummond(who voiced Dr. Claw in the same shows and movies, except Claw never appeared in Gadget Boy).
Annie Drummond, nee Annie Gadget II- Another secret agent, Penny's mother, and Gadget's older sister. In my fan fic explaining my version of Inspector Gadget's origin, I named his sister Annie, not remembering that it was established in Erasing Gadget that that was his mother's name. Once I realized the mistake, I decided that Gadget's parents named their daughter after her mother. Penny's parents are often on very important missions, leaving them very little time for their daughter. This is why Gadget takes care of her and why we never see them.
Penny Drummond- Daughter of Maurice and Annie Drummond, and niece of Inspector Gadget. She possesses a computer book that can do anything and find information on anything. It's practically a multipurpose electronic encyclopedia! She also has a communicator watch she uses to keep in touch with Brain and the Gadgetinis Fidget and Digit.
Brain- Loyal pet of Inspector Gadget, Brain is an aptly named bipedal dog who frequently helps Gadget while wearing a disguise(though Gadget tends to mistake him for a M.A.D. Agent). The movies depicted Brain as an actual dog, but I think it's more than cartoon rules that make Brain able to walk and (kind of) speak. My version of his story is he was a human biologist named Dr. Brian Finot(His first name an anagram of Brain, and his last name the character's name in the French version of Inspector Gadget. Finot means a person who appears to be dumb, but is really sneaky). In an accident, Finot was fused with a dog. All that remains of Brian is his mind, which has nearly merged with the dog's. Despite how bad his fate might seem, Brain has grown used to being a humanoid dog and has nothing but respect for Penny and Gadget, as they treat him as more than just a family pet.
The Gadgetinis- Fidget(orange) and Digit(blue). They first appeared in Gadget and the Gadgetinis, where they were creations of Penny to replace Brain, who retired after the trauma of Gadget accidentally hurting him all the time(in my continuity, the pain had the opposite effect. Instead of breaking down and retiring, Brain became tougher and is willing to protect Gadget even if his own life is at risk). Both Fidget and Digit are more competent than Gadget, but Fidget tends to be a little clumsy at times. In my continuity, Brain also had a hand in their creation. They were built so Brain didn't have to get hurt all the time. I do not consider Gadget and the Gadgetinis in its entirety canon to my version of Inspector Gadget, but the episodes that are canon are Erasing Gadget, Reality Bites, and that last episode involving unicorn milk with a very long title(since Brain is still on the team, his absence is explained by him taking the day off. You'd need a day off as well if you frequently risked your life protecting a clumsy cyborg). Also, Gadget is still an Inspector and he still learns of Claw's missions from Chief Quimby.
I also forgot to mention that in this continuity, Dr. Claw's real name is neither George Claw nor Sandford Scolex: It is Salvatore Talon.
Wowsers! Look at the time! Go go Gadget Rocket Shoes!

Thanks. Gadget's prank on Capeman and other hated cartoon characters will be on its way(except I decided to also include Lion-O and Snarf).
